I went to mailbox today and received a card from "Outdoor Photographer." The card stated that they were converting to a digital format. The reason cited was the risk due to COVID-19. This is interesting, since all the evidence points to COVID risks from mail as being minimal. Furthermore, if the magazine were delivered in an envelope or plastic bag, the risks would be reduced to practically zero. I have a sense that there were other factors, namely costs, that were involved here. Interestingly, I was receiving "Outdoor Photographer" to fill out my subscription to "Shutterbug," another venerable paper photo publication that had folded. This is disappointing to say the least. Although I have no objection to sharing and viewing photographs digitally, I enjoy them in the traditional paper format as well. To my knowledge, this leaves only "Click" and "Lens Work" as the only existing paper format American photo magazines, assuming that they are not planning to switch to digital formats as well.

Actually, the Black & White magazine is still in both print and electronic formats.

Very nice shots! Wondering what the setting difference was between 2 and 3?

Add me to the mono. The color makes the image a capture of the scene. Nice, but the B&W forces us to immediately focus on teh faces, framing and the implied of the three figures looking at teh same thing.

Thank you for your feedback and comments. I agree with you that the B&W version invites us to focus on specific image elements.

That's a pretty good capture ... I'd just crop it a bit.

Thank you for your feedback. I'll work on the image and see how far I can go with it.

Downtown Osaka has many restaurants where one can watch the chefs "cook a storm". Nighttime is the best time to watch the shows!
I used a Sony a6000 with a Zeiss f/1.8; 24mm (my preferred travel kit).
Your feedback and suggested changes to the photograph are most welcomed!

I grew up with B&W film so I was partial to monochromatic photographs. Thank you all for your kind comments and preferences. I was torn between the color and monochromatic versions. The votes are 3.5 for the monochromatic and 4.5 for the color renditions.

It's a toss. I like them both. Your subject is interesting, and is nicely framed by the two closer figures. And all are looking in the same direction. And of course there are three of them, also forming a triangle with their heads. Good job.

Thank you very much for your feedback. I did some minimal cropping on the original photograph just by intuition without knowing the compositional principles that you are describing! Now I understand what I did thanks to your comments. At 70, I always feel good learning at least one new thing everyday.

Street converted to pedestrian-only. What's your preference - color or monochromatic?

Surprised why? Christians shoot, too; or perhaps the proprietor’s name is Christian.

Good point. I am Christian and I shoot Sig. I don't know why I was surprised to see the store's name. I don't think it was the store owner's name. Otherwise, I would be Christian's Gun Store.

I was surprised to find this Christian Gun Sales store in a small town near Albany, Georgia. It was closed, so I couldn't check the inside. Comments & suggestions?
