Traveling on the major highway going through Maine (yes, there’s only one) you’ll spot an Osprey nest on the Kittery/York line. Fortunately there is an access road away from the highway that places you about 75-80 yards from the nest. The nest is perched on top of a utility pole so it’s pretty high up but without obstructions. Here are a few shots from my first visit. It was enjoyable and more visits are planned. Enjoy.

Thank you all very much. I just found a road that leads to an Osprey nest. The nest is visible from the highway but there is also an access road to the nest which is pretty good for photos. Hopefully Osprey photos will be forthcoming. Finger’s crossed.

Eagles were soaring on this day, they came closer than usual. The seagulls weren’t happy. One baby has hatched but I do not have a suitable photo…yet. Hope you enjoy the photos.

The eagle didn’t seem worried in the least.

Unfortunately the eagle flew over my vehicle as I was taking this photo, hence the cut off wing. This would be a pretty good photo if I wasn’t sitting in my car at the time. I included it because I liked how close the seagull was to the eagle.

I’m also convinced that’s what it is. Thanks to all for taking the time to respond.

A big thank you to all who have responded. I certainly know much more now than I did before, which will make any additional research that much more focused and hopefully effective. I also noticed the yellow feather coloration which did not seem random but rather by design. Much appreciation to letmedance for getting us off on the right track. Thanks again for all your responses,
Doug

I’ve never seen this little guy hanging around before. Can anyone help identify him/her? I’m in southern Maine. At first I wondered if it was some sort of Warbler or Wren, but none of my research panned out. Thanks in advance for helping.

#1 is an awesome shot that shows the size and majesty of this bird like few others can do for it.

Thanks, I was fortunate that she came a bit closer than usual. She is a magnificent creature indeed.

Great set, I'd get nothing but a speck at that distance with my 600mm on a D500. What
lens are you using?

A Tamron 150-600 G2 on a Nikon D850. I know the distance is correct as one of the other folks who takes photos has a rangefinder that set the closest tree (the one with the nest) at just over 160 meters. With my advanced math skills I converted to yards (thanks Google). The other trees are father away. As I said, the eagle was much closer than that when she landed on the shore and flew away with the crab. All the other photos were the greater distance. Thanks for the positive feedback, much appreciated.

Normally the eagles are about 175-225 yards away. While some of these photos were taken from that distance, the first few were from about 200 feet as the eagle (I think the female) landed on the shore along the York River. She eventually took off with a crab. I must admit that it was exciting seeing this majestic bird coming a bit closer. It appears that the eggs have hatched as the eagles were very active and noisy. I hope you enjoy these images, I enjoyed taking them.
