Regular dumb ass you are. Who do you think pays for border security? Who pays for their keep until they go to court? Who pays their court expenses? Who pays to deport them? If we didn't have illegal crossings we wouldn't have these expenses.

This post is symptomatic of the current ethos in America. Have you ever changed somebody's mind by calling them a name?

What money do you think we're spending? Are you one of the Limbaugh/Hannity/Faux News disciples that think they get welfare, free food, free housing? Sorry, they get free nothing, unless they are sponsored by a charity, such as Catholic Charities. In fact, just ONE i*****l a***n paid more taxes in 2017 than the #LiarInChief did. And no Veteran needs to be homeless: the VA has programs for all of these vets. I will not watch this topic, so you can all flame away to your heart's content. I have just had it up to here and past with people who do not know what they are talking about.

For you digitally experienced UHHers, please take a look at the image included. The red arrows indicate some blotches that show up when light, even tones are in that area of the frame. I have enhanced the midtones so these blotches will show up better.

Are these anomalies typical of sensor contamination and if so what would they be caused by? The size and almost circular shape makes them look more like a deposit of something that is left by an evaporated liquid rather than being dust/dirt. Are the blotches indicators of a need for a sensor cleaning? Or do they indicate another condition, repairable or not. I've had the camera almost three years, and maybe it's due for a cleaning?

Also, zoom to the point at the end of the green arrow - is that a dead pixel or group of pixels? Or would a dead pixel be black?

Your advice is appreciated.

Stan

What is the maximum size print that can be made from a 12 megapixel iPhone 7? How about the 24mp SONY 6000?

There's a good discussion of print size/viewing distance at

It's not an ideal practice, in my opinion.

But most local retailers are well aware of prices on Amazon, B&H, Adorama, etc. I generally tell them the best price I've seen online, and ask them how close they can come, BEFORE they start taking out cameras or other equipment for me to handle. If they can come reasonably close, I buy locally. But I'm always honest with them from the moment I walk in the door. I also buy all of my film, printing, and consumable products from them if what I need is available there.

It will be a sad day when you can't walk into a local shop and find what you need.

Most of the cameras discussed on this forum are Nikon, Canon, Sony and others. I don’t recall any mention of the Leica brand. The cost of Leica’s seem to be comparable to the heigher end Nikon, Canon, Sony and others. I’m curious. Do any of the UHH members have and/or use the Leica brand? If so, why or why not. Is it the cost compared with other brands? Is it features compared with other brands? What say the group?

The plural of Leica is Leicas. No apostrophe.

hi all, on my 7d/2 noticed i had a spot in the view finder so i took the lens off and looked at the mirror. i must say that i really never looked closely to the inside of the body. i have a brush and a rocket blower just in case i needed them, well the brush worked well and removed the dust i didn't need the blower this time. i have two questions. first question looking at the very bottom of the mirror there is a space that stays open and it looks normal to me is that normal? and the second which is more important when looking at that space that is what i think is one of the curtains if using a blower am i over thinking this, if your blowing dust off of the mirror will there be a chance of just moving the dust that was on the mirror to the curtain which will have a greater chance of jumping to the sensor when things are moving? any opp on blowers thanks bill

Visible Dust sells sensor cleaning brushes that get a static charge when blown with compressed canned air. The brush then attracts dust which sticks to the brush. Blow the brush with air again you're good to go again.

This one will support a load of 26lbs.

This Siriu tripod looks a lot like my Gitzo Mountaineer, yet is one-third the price. Do you think it's well built, durable and otherwise of good build quality?

I recently purchased a lens hood for my 50mm. I have the lens on my camera and want to know if will hurt anything if I leave the lens hood on in the camera bag?

Is the lens hood reversible; i.e., can you slip it over the lens threaded end backward, then rotate it into solid position? All my Nikon lenses (except my 85mm 1.4) allow this. I know this is pretty elemental, but in 75 years I've discovered many similar no brainers, frequently much later than I should have.

So it's not a plural. It's a contraction :-)

There are limitations to cell phone cameras, without a doubt and there are limitations with regular cameras too.
There is a big difference in the content of the photo's, with a camera phone you are working up close with people not photographing an eagles nest. If you are on a night out you are hardly likely going to carry a good camera to get a beer knocked over it.

You can be part of an event with a cell phone camera, you're more likely to be an observer with a regular camera.
Did you know you don't even need to be holding a cell phone camera to use it?
Filmic pro can control one iphone camera with a second iphone.

Lets say you have a bird table, you could have one set on the table, and you can operate that camera out of sight of the birds. The iphone has an ip67 rating that can handle immersion in water to 1 meter, you can shoot in the rain without risking killing your camera.

You can even use gaffer tape to put your camera places you wouldn't even risk a regular camera.

There are some brilliant opportunities that are open to you with these very light weight and sophisticated cameras.
There is a whole laundry list of what you can do with a dslr or m43 camera that you can't do with a cell phone camera of course.

I,m sure you have all read the headlines that camera sales are dropping and phone cameras are booming,it will be nice that the phone owners can snatch that photo that otherwise would have been missed and sure they can blur backgrounds and give portrait like results etc,but my DSLR and more recently my coolpix p7000 won't be being replaced by a phone camera any time soon.
Are you hanging up your DSLR,s members ?

Long ago I decided that I didn't want to join the masses who with increasing frequency are seen to be looking down at their "device" and tapping it with their fingers. (This is an advertising meme that is already nauseatingly universal.) Never mind that this is often dangerous; to me it represents a tragic decline in human sensibilities, curiosity, diversity. Although I have a cell phone it is only for emergencies; I take care of a 100% disabled veteran. I've been an active photographer for more than six decades, and the owner of high-end DSLRs since they first became available. Sure, phone cameras can make very good images; it's just that they cannot engage the limitless possibilities-nor the perfection-of an image carefully made with a camera having the capabilities of a modern DSLR. I don't know about you, but for me making such images is the whole point of the exercise.

I have lived in SLC for seven decades; I remember a 30 inch snowfall on April 30 (!) about forty years ago.
