Very nice. We're headed to Boise this fall and I'll have to visit the depot.

Thank you. You may already know this, but you will be going by Shoshone Falls near Twin Falls, Idaho. The flow will be less than in the Spring but still worth a visit. Malad Gorge is a little further towards Boise and also worth a stop, IMO.

It was a gloomy, overcast, lifeless day. No hint of a shadow or contrast anywhere.

We just returned from a trip to Boise, Idaho, where we used to live. We attended a wedding for our granddaughter. I got away for a few photos. This set is of an iconic local spot, the Boise Depot.

You need to save the photo after you press share. This puts the edited photo into the camera roll.

One just has to be careful of any perceived viewing aspect change.
For example, the dog with the black background appears to have legs hanging vertically.

The dog photo was a quick iPhone photo to demonstrate how this works. The results may be less than perfect. I can see this being used by average people taking photos of people that have distracting backgrounds.

I recently read about an easy technique to extract a part of a photo that gives the subject with a black background. This works with photos saved to the camera roll on an iPhone or iPad.

1. Select the photo from the camera roll.
2. Press the part of the photo you want to extract. It will be encircled in white.
3. Press share
4. This will give the extracted photo in the camera roll.

The results are not always perfect. Sometimes I get an extraction with a white background that I put into Snapseed to get a black background.

This will work for photos of individual people and groups of people that have distracting backgrounds.

The last week of July I drove to Charleston, SC. I like to drive and do some photography along the way. I picked my wife and grandson up at Myrtle Beach airport on my way down and after a week took them back there before heading home myself. While the drive from Nazareth, PA to Charleston is only about 13 hours, I took three days to get down there and four days to get back. Here are a few shots of what I saw along the way:

3 interesting, well executed sets…..I am thinking some pre trip planning may have helped.
