You're probably referring to the Bogen 3051/3251 or Manfrotto 058 series. They have a lever at the top which will drop all three legs at once. It's a red ring that is rotated to accomplish the task. I have a 3251, and I'm in the process of replacing the ring; the previous owner damaged the ring.

It's a beast of a tripod, and I use it with the Manfrotto 229 (Bogen 3039) heavy duty head for medium and large format cameras.

Awesome thats it. The 3051. Found one for $299.00 on ebay.
Thank you.
I am going to look for one a bit cheaper but if not i am going to be spending $300.00 on a memory.

While manfrotto was making tripods in Italy they were being imported into the US by Lester Bogen. You may want to expand your internet search to early Bogen models.

Thank you if I remember correctly my old tripod said something like. " Manfrotto by Bogen". On it. And had a Bogen head on it.

My Manfrotto Video Tripod uses the same quick legs drop, however it is only about 6 years old I think. It is a 542ART Carbon Fiber, super light and strong as an ox! Very fast deployment and adjustment for different leg angles, etc. Hope that helps.

Thank you very much, as i am looking to replace that tripod only for personal reasons. The one you mention is very interesting for practical reasons.

I am looking for some help ID'ing an old Manfrotto tripod. About 35 yrs ago my father gave me a Manfrotto tripod, it had a very unique feature that i had not seen before or since. Slightly below the knuckle there was a lever that slide sideways, engaging this lever caused all three legs to drop. Making it very easy to setup quickly. Upon releasing the lever it snapped back and locked the legs.
Does anyone have any idea what the model number would have been?
I am guessing he bought it in the 60's.
Maybe 70's.
Anyway any help would be appriciated.
That one was distroyed in a house fire and i would love to find another one.

Thanks
and does anyone else want to skip 2021 and head straight into 2022?

What about the people who enjoy colors other than red, green, or white?? What about us Purplies?? I will have to figure out how and why but I think I'm offended!!

I really thought i had included those in there, but while i was rereading it i got highly offended at myself, now i am just very confused. I am going to get a nightcap and sit in the corner and talk to my camera. (Wonder if my therapist is taking emergency calls tonight?)

Well, I'm sure you offended someone.

Ya, im sure I did. But its meant in fun and the spirit of the season....so if i have offended someone well, just Bah Humbug to them....but then i'm sure that offends someone too, so i guess I am out of words, which is probably a good thing.

To All my Friends:
Please accept with no obligation, implied or explicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral, hemisphere-inclusive celebration of this summer/winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2021, but not without due respect for the calendars of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make the United States a great nation (not to imply that the United States is necessarily greater than any other country in the world). Thanks for sharing. This brings back a flood of memories from my early childhood, my father was a Biology, Physics and Chemistry teacher (as well as the school districts photographer) at our local high school. I recall hanging out in his lab. In the 60's helping him make slides for his classes of this exact type of thing. He also had a setup similar to yours, it had more water in it (that came from one of our farm ponds) by the middle to the end of the year small fish and tadpoles would show up in it. Due to the moss (with eggs attached) he always included in it.
I loved those days spent with him in his classroom and lab.
Anyway, very cool and again thanks for sharing.

A better reason for a lens hood, which the OP did not have on.

I don't think i have ever used a lens without the hood on it. Hood was on.
Friend was trying to take pics of several gulls, had the camera pointed at about a 60 degree angle, inside of hood now has several spots of gray.

Today a friend and i ventured out into the cold to visit a local lake and harass
The wildlife.
He has expressed interest in purchasing a Tamron 150-600g2, so i let him borrow mine. He had it maybe 2 minutes before i hear a squeal, he literally squealed. I of course inquired about this, he shows me the end of my lens, right smak in the middle of my front glass is a good sized splat of bird crap. I informed him there was a cleaning kit in my bag and to please clean the lens. He retreated to the van. After he did not return i went back and found him in the front seat with a rather panicked look on his face.
I have no idea what that bird had for breakfast but it stripped the coating off the glass. He was really freaking about it, thinking he now owed me a lens. I unscrewed the uv filter and handed it to him.
Not sure if this has ever happened before, to anyone, Ever, be interested to know.
So anyway, theres another pro for using clear or uv filters for protective purposes.
He is going to send me the shots he was taking at the time, might be able to see the incoming.
Be safe all.
