I shoot sony mirrorless and think live view in the viewfinder and the focus peaking is a game changer.

I've a number of cameras but when I go for a hike and just want a camera along or am going birding I grab my Sony rx10 mark 3! It's a great camera and it's silly to be turned off by whatever name somebody attached to it. I will probably upgrade eventually to the mark 4. The thing just plain performs.

The adobe $10 a month program gets you access to lots of programs including Lightroom and photoshop. There's a reason the majority of photographers use these programs. There is a learning curve but being able to "process" your photographs is equally as important to your end result as the original composition and exposure is. The greats have been processing their photos since photography started so don't let anyone tell you different. Ansel Adams spent hours in the darkroom to help bring out what he was trying to convey!

I've a few tripods around here including a cute little Manfrotto be free, but if possible I always take a "real" tripod. I've a couple of Gitzo mountaineers and they will fit in a 22" roller bag when I remove the center column with the head. There are just too many compromises with the travel tripod, chiefly stability and height.

I've a Sony a7iii and use a canon mount tamron 100-400 with a sigma adapter and it works perfectly. I would love to have purchased the Sony 100-400 but this combination was half the price and since I don't use it lots has worked well. In general though am very, very happy with the Sony lens I have, 16-35 F4, 24-70 F2.8, and 70-200 F4.

Even if you just use photoshop for spot removal it's worth it. Does a way better job than lightroom.

I've got lots of cameras, full frame and crop sensors sony's, a fuji x100f, sony rx10mk3, sony rx100mk5, and others if I had to have just one it would be the rx10mk3 or the new mk4 version, just a quality easy to use machine, the 25-600 zoom is great, just hard to beat as an all around camera.

Check out f/stoppers - they just posted an article on how to best use the adjustment brush in PS.

You wouldn't have link to that article would you? Couldn't find it.

Just a wild stab at imagining a solution. What about mounting camera on gunstock? Seems that with holding stock against shoulder you'd dampen the shake quite a bit. Not sure how you connect to trigger for shutter but I'm sure it can be done.

Update, I bought a Dell Ultrasharp U2415. Seems like a great value for the money. I did order a mini display to thunderbolt cable at the same time, just in case. Using that it was plug and play. After calibrating it, I have to say having such a large monitor is sort of a revelation, just seems way easier to edit photos. Sounds silly but am seeing things I just hadn't noticed!

I'll second the suggestion of David Busch's books. I'm a sony guy and wouldn't be without his manuals.

Good to hear. I usually would have just bought a monitor and winged it, but this time I decided to get a bit up to speed before hand. So figures that I'd run into everyone that had an issue. It mostly sound like it's a pretty straight forward set up. Thanks again all!

Thanks for all the suggestions. Looks like it's completely workable and I ordered a monitor. Will go from there.

My new MBP uses my old HP 24" monitor very well with either HDMI or Digital connector. It does NOT think it's a TV.

I use a single cable with a fitting for the charger and an HDMI plug so it only takes one USB-C port on the computer.

Thanks, I'll likely give it a try. Probably reading too many reviews etc. A number of them talk about the poor quality of the image on the monitor and tracing it to the macbook thinking it's a tv.

Here's one of them I sayhttps://www.mathewinkson.com/2013/03/force-rgb-mode-in-mac-os-x-to-fix-the-picture-quality-of-an-external-monitor

Yeah, OWC (Macsales.com) has a breakout box you need. It’s good for other compatibility, too.

I don't think it's a docking problem as I can find monitors with USB-C ports. It's getting the monitor to work as a monitor, mostly what I've read the macpro thinks it's a TV, so the quality isn't there.
