For the past 8 years I've traveled to multiple European countries, including Italy quite a few times, and I've taken 1 camera, either a Nikon D300s or D500 (which I've only recently purchased). I take a Tamron 18-270 and Sigma 10-20 lenses. With extra batteries and CP filters I don't feel overloaded (I'm 75 & in pretty good physical condition). I also will be taking a Fuji X-T20 with, maybe, 2 lenses on my next trip this year. I want to be able to shoot what I want and do not mind a slightly crowded backpack. I'm able to tote the D500 on a sling while have the X-T20 hanging around my neck. I don't take flash since it's pretty well useless in most places and I'm not a flash fan anyhow. The only think I really miss is my macro lens which is simply too heavy when combined with everything else. I have walked all over Paris, Rome, Budapest, Prague, Madrid and various small towns and villages all over Europe with no problems from anyone. That includes trains, buses, trolleys and metros. Enjoy the trip and remember that you're the foreigner.

😊 Years ago when I finally got around to reading the Rings trilogy, that line just jolted me. Couldn't stop thinking about it.

My family/friends would tell you that's the perfect shirt for me. My favorite saying is, "I'm going to take my camera for a walk." My brother and I were in Paris a few years ago when I said that to him. Twelve miles later we met up for lunch at a pre-arrange favorite spot.

Close! Its a bit more like Kuschelina gibbitarsa. See https://bugguide.net/node/view/1227431 for this species, and https://bugguide.net/index.php?q=search&keys=flea+beetle&search=Search for a bunch of others in that group. I may not be right.

Thanks Mark. Had a feeling you'd know the ID. BTW, I have a t-shirt with your J.R.R. Tolkien quote. It elicits at least one comment every time I wear it.

Indeed a strange beast... if new will it be named after you RatGman

dpullum - It was strange to me then and I'll pass on any insects carrying my name in any form thanks!

Instead of searching on Bug Guide, request an ID on there.... Someone will surely know. I have submitted many images for IDs

I have done that in the past. Seems to take longer than a search that doesn't answer the query and then posting here.

I was looking for a macro shot to use for a photo club submission and came across this image from the Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. I've entered every search term I can think of into BG and haven't gotten a hit. Wondering if some of the folks who know bugs a whole lot better than I do can put a name on this little critter?

Thanks Bill.

I'd rather not post the location on the internet. Too many people showing up with cameras might scare the birds away.

I will give you a hint. All these shots were taken south of Dover. The birds can be seen from both my kitchen and garage windows, 10 - 15 feet from each. I shoot from the garage.

I understand. I thought you might have been shooting in one of the large wildlife areas along the coast that I frequent.

Same place as yesterday, with different birds. Still shooting the D300 w/500mm F/4.0

Nice sets yesterday and today. Care to share the place? I'm not that far from DE.

As a minister who served the Chestnut Hill Presbyterian Church just up the hill from the Morris Arboretum many, many years ago, I passed the Arboretum many, many, many times but never visited until very recently. It's a wonderful place. Good photos, so different from the summer visits we took.

Thanks revhen. About the only time I won't go to the Arboretum is during a heavy rainfall. It's beautiful any time of year and is a great place for macro photography in addition to the fantastic landscapes it offers.

Great capture. As a former Philadelphian who lived just minutes from there, this reminds me I didn’t visit nearly enough.

Thanks LouV. Bought a membership about 5 years ago. Live 15 minutes away and make a point to go at least monthly.

Well done! Certainly not a critique but my thought...how would this look with well done HDR?

Thanks dnathan. Don't know the answer to your question - post-processing is not something I have much interest in.
