This is an active Eagle nest....I wanted to stick around & watch the fireworks when the Eagles returned but I ran out of time.

With another winter storm predicted to bring 50+ mph winds, this Eagle was gathering sticks. This stick was at least 6-7 ft long.

It's a great place, in years past I was there and you are right. That year I did see the Great Gray, as well as the Northern Hawk Owl. Great photos. I do have one question. The bird you identified as a Canada Jay in my books is listed as a Gray Jay. Do you have a book that lists it as Canada Jay? Just curious because I know names change and was wondering if that has happened here.

I went to the Sax-Zim Bog in northern Minnesota to Photograph Great Grey Owls and other Owls this past Wed-Fri
Normally this time of year it's zero to minus zero degrees with snow covering the bog. The snow cover causes the Owls to perch and hunt along the gravel roads in the bog making for great photo opportunities....
this week however the temps were in the upper 30's to low 40's causing the Owls to stay away from the road perching trees. All was not lost as I got some great life birds. Evening Grosbeak, Pine Grosbeak, Canada Jay.
I'll def go back some day to get the elusive Great Grey.

Great images, bobinSD!
And I thoroughly agree that itโ€™s a Coopers- likely a female - (1) gauging its size to the fence boards and (2) the relatively smaller proportionate length and breadth of breast feathers compared with that of the same feathers (proportionately much longer and wider) on the smaller sharp-shinned hawk.

Best regards
Dave (a licensed falconer for many years who has flown several Coopers at game)

Dave,
Very interesting, thank you for the information.
