My only other suggestion would be to separate your equipment to narrow down the issue. Use someone elses (or just a totally different) lens on your body, and use your lense on a totally different body, and see if you can replicate the issue. If it shows up on another combo then the common element should be the culprit. If no issues, it is the combination. If issues with both other combos? Well then it might be time to upgrade.
Agreed... I actually am shooting with an old Digital Rebel EOS (Canon's first digital SLR camera) and am having no issues at all with it. This thing has been in my hands from the time it was brand new and sitting on best buys camera shelves. I got an old 18-55mm kit lens with it. Both have been used (a ton) of times and still remarkable photographs come from this EOS camera. Recently I had to send in my Canon Rebel EOS T2i for repairs because the mirror locked up on me. I've had it for about 5-6 months. Canon was having a sale on them so I grabbed it, now I wish I hadn't of. I am paying 50.00 less to have it repaired than I paid for it.
