Do you think that everyone s out of step but you? We are not.

Now take a few minutes to read the article I suggested.

I've read many articles and books. The ones I've read say it affects exposure. You are nitpicking syntax, nothing more.

If you need a clearer head and understanding, put the Maui Wowie down too ... Exposure is the amount of light reaching the sensor, that is solely controlled by the lens aperture and the shutter duration.

Ignoring your insults, if you open the aperture by one stop the picture gets one stop brighter. If you increase the ISO by one stop the picture gets one stop brighter. You can be a purist and nit-pick why that is, but effectively it is the same result.

I have a pretty good handle on it.

You can learn more from the Exposure Triangle Calculator. Download the spreadsheet will also help you.

Brightness is not exposure.

If you think changing the ISO doesn't change the exposure you don't have a handle on it.

Changing the aperture or the shutter speed changes the exposure.

Changing the ISO does not change the exposure. It changes the brightness because it records differently in the raw file.

Ummmm, brightness is exposure. If you change the brightness you've changed the exposure. Changing ISO absolutely changes the exposure. Are you not aware of the exposure triangle?

Of course, the question could be raised "How many normal photography viewers are there on Uglyhedgehog?"

I don't think any of us are really "normal"...:)

I don't know about and never used Tamron, they may be great lenses, but on this case of comparing two different brand of camera, it should use there own lens, or use same lens what ever brand is on both camera to compare. Yes, different lens makes different result.

I aggre with the OP, I don't see the need. There are 3rd party lenses that are better than the OEM lenses. The name on the lens shouldn't matter, just the quality. IMO.

I mean if you shoot mostly with 3rd party lenses then that is what you should test with. No point in testing with a lens you don't use just because it is hte same brand.

I don't need to go to 12,000 ISO for a portrait, street work or an urban landscape!
Nor do I need a whole rake of focus points:-)

Try night street photography. You'll need high ISO. Not all street work is in the daytime. I actually prefer night.

As an old timer film photographer I'm afraid to go over 100 ISO on my Nikon D800 and Canon IDs Mark 111, I have to have one great big think about it before I cautiously go up to 400.

800 , oh my God!

I was the same way - when I shot film. But digital is a whole new ballgame. When I shoot stage performances I go up to ISO 8000 on my D750 with good results. Don't be afraid to experiment, pixels are free. No reason to be stuck in the past.

I'm not saying i would do this, but...

Youve seen the TV commercials where the loudmouth guy cuts a hole in the bottom of his boat, and glues in a screen door. The then slathers his rubbery waterproofing goop over the screen, and puts the boat back in the water, and off he goes.

You could try that.

I actually thought of that. But then I discovered yesterday that the dial for setting the shutter mode was damaged and doesn't turn. So Nikon service it is.

Thanks everyone. I've decided to get it fixed by Nikon. The estimate is $350. That was an expensive fall. I haven't seen the emergency room/ambulance bill yet either. I'm mostly healed now, got the stitches out of my face, but still have a torn tendon in my finger and will probably need surgery. But I'll be ok.

Be careful out there.

My 24-120mm f4 had the zoom ring pop out of place. I just popped it back in (it snaps in) and it is fine. I went on and used both camera and lens the rest of the trip.

I recently took a fall while holding my D750. It hit the pavement hard, and got a hairline crack on the body. It functions perfectly, but I worry about moisture getting in now. So what should I do? Cover it with some kind of sealant? If so what? Leave it alone? Send it to Nikon for repair?

It is a very tough camera (and the 24-120 that was on it is , the zoom ring popped out but I was able to pop it back and it works fine).

Nikon standard lens feet are not compatible with arca-Swiss style clamps! Thus the need to replace them with Kirk or RRS feet.

They are compatible with Arca-Swiss quick release plates though.

Not sure I understand the baggage/itinerary issue

United flights from SFO to Las Vegas are either 737's or A 320's; not commuter jets.

Even if it was a "commuter jet" you can gate check a carry-on bag (dimensions very clear on the web site re size) leave at the end of the jetway and pick up on the jetway on landing.

Additionally, you are allowed a bag pack on the aircraft

With “basic economy” seats you aren’t allowed a carryon regardless of the size of the plane on United. In addition they charge checked bag fee plus a $25 service charge to gate check.

My son got caught on this last weekend. There is a size for personal carry-on.

https://www.united.com/ual/en/us/fly/travel/baggage/carry-on.html

That is available to all. Carry-on cost him $30 USD. On the way back he carried his stuff in a Coke shopping bag that was the smaller size.

It seems that the airlines have followed the banks and found new and unnatural ways to get more blood from a stone.....

Thanks for the link. I'll measure my backpack when I get home and see if it qualifies.

Also on that link is the solution:

"MileagePlus® Premier® members or companions traveling on the same reservation"

My fiance is a Premier member, and I'm her companion on the trip.
