I am using only one Canon L lens 24-105. But I haven't been using multiple exposure mode.

I have a good tripod with a conventional 3 point align head. Even with practice it takes several seconds to set up my current head. I understand a ball head is faster. How do you compare the two. Are there disadvantages to the ball head. And how much difference is there between an inexpensive and inexpensive head (what does that mean in $) ?

.When I visit the Gulf coast, I get the opportunity to photograph interesting birds in the air, sometime from a boat and sometimes from the shore. They move fast, auto focus is undependable. Sometimes they are 15 ft and sometimes 40 ft from the camera. Are there suggestions on how to get a good photo of a flying bird. ie: distance setting, f stop, ISO, etc (and lens) and strategy.

Good idea. I have a Sony alpha 100 which I can use on more dirty occassions. It takes excellent pictures but does not have the features of the Mark II

I got an 70-200mm f2.8 for $1200 . Non IS and it is a great lens!

I was thinking about that one but I usually don't shoot with a tripod and I am worried about not having the IS. Is it true the IS doesn't work above 125th anyway?

I guess I will just have to spring for the $1600-2000 to get an f2.

I am going to France in a couple of months and I think I will get a canon 50mm f1.8 to use inside the churches unless you have a better idea.

Two comments
1. Sitting on the floor close to the basket is a great idea, if I can get away with it.

2. If I shoot at 125 or 250, isn't the IS disabled anyway?

I had a 24-270 mm for my Sony alpha that took acceptable vacation pictures. But I have become a little more discerning since I got a 5D mark II. It looks like the Canon 7-200 f2.8L is the way to go. On eBay it seems to go for about $1300 with auto focus but without IS. With IS it is $2300. For non-tripod shots, I need IS but $1,000 is a lot to pay for that feature. A lot of anguish here.
