Founded in 1949 in the karst area of central Croatia and very close to Bosnia Herzegovina, is the Plitvice Lakes National Park. It is the oldest national park in the south east of Europe and the largest national park in Croatia. In 1997 is was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list. About 1.2 million visitors visit the site each year to see the 16 terraced lakes that cover and area of about 0.77 acres. The many (hundreds ?) of waterfalls are made by natural dams of travertine over which the water must flow. Some of the falls are very high and some very low but all are incredible.
Each season has its own character and photo possibilities. We visited in early summer - I'd certainly like to go back in the winter months.
If you're not a fan of 'milky' waterfalls, I don't really think you'll like these! ;=))

I placed this site on my bucket list; however, I crossed it off when I perused slides that I took during a 1968 tour and
realized that I had been there!!! Thanks

Very nice composition. However, it appears some yahoos inscribed the rocks with
their own blather, or am I mistaken.

Yes, it happens all too often. Most formations in the park had
similar marks. William Clark left his name on Pompey's Pillar on the return trip (Lewis and Clark expedition). A
vandal carved his name next to the historic signature, was
caught and paid a hefty fine.
