Hope this helps but it is just my opinion.

Of course it is your opinion - how could I ask for more?!?

I used affinity dehaze tool, but these shots were taken when the smoke from Montana was fairly thick.

As a qualified photo competition judge, the only one that has a chance is South Dakota Badlands, the second image. The other images have issues with exposure, impact, color and composition. Good luck. If you win Dave with the second image you owe me a cup of coffee.

If it isn't too much trouble, could you explain a little about what you mean, (exposure, Impact, color and composition) . Apparently there are standards that must be a little less subjective than 'looks good to me'. Do all judges follow similar standards - I realize that each has their own preferences, but can a lot of hotos be discarded by all from the get go?

Here are some photos all taken in national parks. I'm going to enter them in a contest sponsored by the NPRF. I know that the odds of winning are pretty small, but as they say,you won't win if you don't play.

So, i would like all you experts, especially those shaving experience with contests and judges to critique these shots.I don't want the standard "nice series" type compliments. if there are problems let me know please.

Anyone know what causes these darker spots on my photos. They can be easily removed , but I suppose i should get it fixed if it is something on the sensor? Darkening the sky makes them stand out more.

Keep in mind that railroad tracks are private property that belongs to the railroads. If you are on the tracks you are trespassing.
Being on the the tracks is also dangerous, there are many tripping hazards that can cause injury or death, this danger only increases at night when visibility is low.
If you are injured or killed while on the tracks your health and/or life insurance may not cover you because you are participating in an illegal activity.
il will be well off the track

I have been shooting a series of train photos, and would like to try some at night. Some of the area I am looking at is beside a fairly well lighted park, so I should be able to get those OK. What I also want is a train from the front in the dark. Anyone have ideas on hows to get that without having the headlight blow everything out? What kind of filter and camera settings?
Thanks

I got a new cymk Epson printer, it's an all in one so I don't expect the greatest results, but the printed copies are all darker than the ones on the monitor. Is this something that can be fixed by calibrating one or the other, or does it have to do with RGB v. CYMK? I may be able to save the RAW edited file to CYMK, I haven't tried that yet, hoping to get some direction from the hog first. I normally use Shutterfly, and sending them a jpeg is reproduced fine.
Thanks

There were herds of wild mustangs in Teddy Roosevelt National Park (North Dakota), and the Black Hills Wild Horses Reserve, 14,000 acres that has 700 horses primarily rescues. The ones at TRNP, were not supposed to be approached, but the ones at the BHWHR see humans every day and because they are not harmed, you can walk around in the herd and the horses just walk up to get petted.

The second one the guy sitting on the stoop was a surprise. I took the picture from a ways away. When i zoomed in on the PC I saw that he was holding flowers in one hand and a cigar in the other. I'd like to know the story behind that.

Yep, I thought he looked a Little sunburned when I saw him, and the tattoo was perfect.

Thanks!
