Update 1903, available since May. I got that message last week and went looking and found 1903. Don't know why it did not happen automatically.

Neat new tool: Windows key-shift-S. It allows you to copy just a part of the screen to the clipboard so you can paste it into a new PS window. Simpler than the old Windows key-PrtScr.

If the sun is slightly behind, is it possible the black edge along his arm a shadow from his body?
Bill

The shadow on the boogie board shows his arm was directly in the sun. Thanks for the suggestion.

Longtime reader; first time poster here. Some photos taken at the Vietnam War Memorial during a recent result morning walk around the National Mall.

P13. Well done. The Wall offers such great opportunities at sunrise in particular. It has special meaning when you knew the people whose names are listed.

Fine shot. Thanks for sharing. It gave me a practice file for my new Topaz Studio 2 software. I was able to pull out the mountain details much better.

Did you sharpen? Sometimes setting the radius too large can give a dark halo at an edge. You could try reducing the radius.

Thanks for commenting. The non-PP'd RAW file clearly shows the black edge also.

Could it have been water reflecting or refracting the light? The sun was at his back so it should have been in full sun.

I'll have to think about that one. The water around him was churning white so would have reflected from below him also. Thanks for the idea.

I was wading in the surf taking shots of our grandsons riding boogie boards. Our 8-year old began standing up on his board attempting to "surf"... and was getting pretty good at it. I had to make sure I did not get knocked over by the frequent waves so could not always set up for best composition.

He came pretty close to me as I shot this one. The sun was bright, high and slightly behind him.

I am completely puzzled by the black edge at the rear of his left arm. His arm was out (for balance) and fully exposed to the sun.

What could have caused the black edge? One of my thoughts is motion blur.

P.S. I like the artsy effect of being too close.

Dave, either way your photo is excellent. I love the line of umbrellas at the bottom.
Personally if I had to pick, I would go with #2 because for me the extra drama and contrast helps amplify your quality image.

Fine feedback, Brent. Thanks.

We actually have some waves at Wrightsville this week. Hopefully they will stay around for the O'Neill/ Sweetwater Pro-Am next weekend.

These are lovely, Dave. I agree that there is a lot to Studio 2. I've played with it some but barely scratched the surface.

Thank you, Carol. We are going to be playing with the new program for some time.

I am two weeks into a trial of the new Topaz Studio 2 and have hardly dented its capabilities (sorta like a current generation smart phone.)

This shot of the Duomo in Milano on a rainy day in early May is my best attempt to improve a good shot using Studio 2.

And a bonus: Colleoni's Chapel in Bergamo after Studio 2.

What do you think?

Having been there myself, I know you went to great lengths to set up those shots. Superb.

I guess that the topic would have maybe faired better in Chit Chat, clearly the Attic is not the place for the type of exchange that Trix wanted to have.

I originally posted to Chit Chat but was kicked to The Attic within hours and advised to keep political discussion out of Chit Chat. I have to believe that any discussion related to climate is deemed political.

The Attic has an interesting dynamic: start a discussion about sunspots and end up with Trump is a terrorist.

AI is only as good as the individual keying in the programs which leaves a lot of room for error.

You make a valid point. 30 years ago I worked with some early AI projects and recognized the bias of the program. It encoded my understanding of a particular human activity. What if my understanding was skewed? Or if the programmer did not understand what I told him correctly?

I have to believe that AI has progressed tremendously towards self-correcting programs (which means they can still be biased.)

But it would be interesting if AI could ferret out the biases that were plumbed in by all the data correction that has happened.
