In this photo I believe a polarizing filter would deepen the blue in the sky, and reduce the highlights reflecting off the leaves at the bottom of the photo giving the more detail and richer green. I really do like this photo, and I hope Ronna goes back to shoot this location again during seasons and shares it with us.

I agree! You simply must go back in fall. You'll be able to locate it again. Be sure to take a tripod if you can, and a polarizing filter. That is a great little cabin to photograph and would be well worth the effort.

What a great find! This would be a wonderful place to revisit with fall colors! Love the birches!

What would the polarizing filter do in this photo?

panning from my balcony is slightly awkward, also, this fish is in belfast

Very nice! Do you know what shutter speed you were using for the panning shot?

I was thinking of shopping for a speedlight but to be honest I rarely do portraits. About 95% of what I do is nature, landscapes and wildlife. However I do sometimes use fill flash and as such it's fine but... does a few inches above the camera really produce desirable shadow effects to make it worthwhile? True, indoors you can bounce the light but again most of my work is outdoors anyway. So I'm just looking for input and advice on whether or not to get one. Please feel free to post examples of any advantages.
Thanks

I posted this shot months ago. It was taken at the beach with my speedlight in the hot shoe. I had been taking shots of my family and a friend visiting from Indonesia. I decided to take a few shots of the birds but forgot to turn off the flash, or even change my settings. The flash annoyed the gulls terribly which brought them in even closer.

I took this with my Nikon Coolox L120 which usually makes red look washed out so I changed the +/- down to -1.0. Opinions and suggestions please...

I had the same problem with my mom's red Gerbera Daisies. This turned out really well

This is one of my favorite wild flowers, unfortunately, I don't know what it's called. I do know it's against the law to pick, uproot or destroy in the state of California.
It's found along major highways and many back roads in the most unlikely places. The flowers of this plant are huge; perhaps the largest in this area

Jimson weed and very toxic. Keep children and animals away from it...

Nice catches! They are beautiful flyers, but not much to look at face wise.:)
We live close to Hinkley Ohio and they come in the thousands to roost. Once in the spring and again in the fall. If you google Hinley Ohio Buzzards it is kind of cool.

I was passing by an historic 1700's cemetery this morning just as the rain had stopped and the mist was burning off. There must have been over thirty of these vultures perched on gravestones trying to warm their wings and dry out. It was an impressive, if a bit macabre, sight. The problem was that my camera was at home four miles away (another good reason to have one with you at all times, but hey, I was going to the dump). I raced home for the camera and by the time I returned most of the birds were circling overhead. But I did manage to capture a couple of stragglers.

Wow! These are the coolest photos ever. You were in the right place at the right time. How fortunate you were to catch something so rare. I wish I could have seen this with my own eyes. Fantastic!
