May be a Western Yellowjacket - Vespula pensylvanica. Would be happy if someone can confirm or correct my guess.

Great shot, Diptera! And just the way I like them - not in person.

Thanks Sherry..my 3 month check-up was OK, sugar is well under control, averaged 6.6 over the last three months.Got some more pain pills and some more morphine injections. Lorraine got the results from her stool sample she had taken at the hospital. She has two of the world's worst bowel viruses that you can possibly get...no wonder she was so sick...the best/worst place to get both these viruses is on a plane...and they take about 48 hours to show up...which figures, flew home Saturday and she started getting sick on the Tuesday night.

So, are the viruses on the wane?
Glad you got meds for your pain. Good news on your 3-month check-up, too! Hubby's A1c is typically over 9; he's very brittle and is so fearful of lows, he intentionally opts for high - a bit too high. If he ever got a 6.6 he'd probably celebrate with a big piece of cake and a couple of candy bars!

This photo was taken about a month ago. I would like to think it is somewhat different from the "typical shot." After some thought (and pp), I decided I like it, but would really like to know what others think. Any comments will be appreciated.
Allan

I like it! A lot.

Love this photo! The light featheriness and, oh yes, her bashfulness.

Nice shots of the beauty you found on the forest floor.
I was feeling sorry for the poor lonely berry - then spotted his friend in the last photo.

..a few pics from our garden..Lorraine is still not well so I haven't had much of a chance to get the camera out lately. My eyes are OK but not good enough to get my little mate's eye where it is, a real fluke...or was he keeping an eye on me..

Beautiful springtime shots, Ron! Love the bird peeping at you.

Hoping you and Lorraine both receive good news at tomorrow's appointments.

Common milkweed has gone to seed and the pods are splitting open, releasing the seeds with their little parachutes.

Great shots, Mike!
So interesting to see what the pods look like just before the seeds fly away.

Thanks for looking, Greg! I have some Angela-strain milkweed seed I am just itching to get in the ground.

Very nice shot, Sherri! Could be on his migratory flight and dropped by for a refresher on your pretty yellow Lantana!

Thanks for sharing!

Bob

Thanks, Bob! My last sight of him was flying high and southward until he became just a speck, then out of sight. My thought was that he was headed south of the border, down Mexico way.

Beautiful, Sherry. We have a lot of Milkweed going here - 6 different species. Milkweed is required as a larval host plant for Monarchs, of course. For nectar, we have noticed that they have a strong preference for Joe Pye weed. Even when they have dozens of other choices they will all be crowded in on the Joe Pye. I think Sweet Joe Pye is native down your way. It is really easy to grow.

Mike

Thanks for looking and for your kind comment, Mike!
Angela was kind enough to send me some milkweed seeds and I will be joining the effort to Save Our Monarchs! I will definitely add Joe-Pye weed to my list of nectar plants to grow. Weeds are one of the things I seem to be really good at growing!
