For year’s I’ve been using back button focus and been pleased with my results. But, while capturing images at the lake this morning I had a momentary brain fart. Would it make any difference if I used shutter button focusing? So I switched over to using the shutter button to focus. With only having to use one finger to focus and shoot, it was easier to just concentrate on keeping the viewfinder on the bird.

I think I’ll use shutter button focus for BIFs in the future.

Anyone with similar experiences?

BBF can let you to focus and lock the main subject first and then you can recompose the frame you like. You can use either BBF or shutter button on "continue focus mode" to take flying birds

No.

Did you lose something when AutoFocus replaced manual focus?
Did you lose something when digital replaced film?
Did you lose something when aperture priority replaced shutter priority?
Did you lose something when lenses were enabled with stabilization?

NOT at all! I don't care all of above!

I was looking at the picture shown in a previous post in this article. Facing the camera, it appears to have a bump out on the left side if the camera, which I believe is intended for gripping purposes. I understand that there is no grip attached to the bottom of the camera in this picture.

Yes, I see what you meant, it's the hand grip, and in there is the battery compartment. The leather covers over it that makes me to hold the camera steadily and comfortably.

The leather case looks great on the Df and it has a built in grip covered by the leather case. The Zfc does not have a grip built in.

No, Df doesn't have a built in grip nor grip at all. The cover you saw is the battery and memory card compartment cover at the bottom!

It also comes with a wrist strap as shown, I use it instead of the neck strap. I found it at Amazon.

That flap at the bottom is clever.

Yes it is, I don't have to remove the case while I need to change the battery or remove the memory card, even when I use the tripod. The case was well made with high grade of leather. It has never left my camera.

This is a nice little half case, but for $49.00, I'll have to give it some thought. It comes with a strap, so I wouldn't have to buy one, and it has an aluminum baseplate with access to the battery and a 1/4 x 20 screw hole for a tripod plate. When cameras came with cases in the old days, I seldom had the top half on. From Amazon.

The same company has a grip for $40. You'll notice that it comes with an "Anti-off Pin." If I got the grip, I'd also have to buy a leather strap. It looks like the one I had ordered isn't available. It should have been delivered two days ago, but they're talking about giving me a refund. I'm leaning toward the grip, but not right away.

I have this half leather case on my Df, it feels very comfortable in my hand.

Hello Hoggers, I need your expert advice. I have taken a few sunset photos and now been reading that the sun could damgage my 7200 sensor with prolonged use. Should I be using a filter? What kind and which one is a good? What do they cost? I'll be using a Sigma 17-50 and Nikon 70-200. Thanks for any advice.

I took some Sun set images without any filter, I just wait for the right moment of the Sun when it reached the position that it's intensity was low, and I set the low ISO; aperture at f11, slow shutter speed on tripod.

I also took the Sun at mid day with Mylar Solar filter, I took some Solar eclipse pictures.

Excellent! I am a sucker for IR b/w. Thanks for sharing. Glad to see more IR showing in the forum.

Can a new section as " IR photography" be set in the UHH forum?

Here is an example of my conversion from LifePixel with a 590nm filter.

I have the 590nm too, it creates very vibrant color, because it allows some visible light passing through. If you swapped the red/blue channel in PP, the foliage will be come bright orange/yellow instead of purple, the sky will be in darker blue. But this is only my taste! Thankyou for sharing!

I bought a Singh-Ray 690 IR filter and used it in bright mid-day sunlight. I was disappointed.

My camera was a Canon R5 with an f:2.8 70-200 Canon lens. I was hoping for a more enhanced contrast between warm and cool objects.

They make a model called the 830 that blocks even more visible light. I didn't know enough about IR photography when I bought the 690 to make an informed decision.

Did you convert your Canon R5, or you just put the 690nm IR filter on top of your lens, if it is the case, the image surely will disappoint you, because the IR blocking filter (Hot mirror) that was built in your Canon will block most of the IR ray plus your 690nm filter will block the visible light below 690nm.

I have a lens like that upstairs - either Vivitar or Soligor, with a T-mount lens. It's so much larger than current 200mm lenses. I should take it apart and do something with it - or the pieces.

Jerry, you mean the 70-210? Why do you want to take it apart? It was/is a fine zoom with 1/2X macro/close-up ( not true macro 1/1X),mine has Nikon F mount, I use it on my Df for flower imaging with in a couple feet.

I have the Vivitar 70-210mm f3.5 ser.-1 and 100mm f2.8 macro, plus the Vivitar 285HV flash. I use the70-210 for close up flower shot with my Nikons.

...sorry if my post was unclear. I can "add" A filter and that's all I want to do. Like I said, the A7 is at 590, not full spectrum...but with the filter(s) I get fine performance at 720 and 830, respectively.

May you tell me what kind of additional filters you used to improve the performance, what kind of performance do you mean? You know the more filter you add on the lens the more degrading to you image, why didn't you converted your camera to full spectrum at first step, and then use different nm of different IR filter to archive what you would like to have. For example, you add a 720nm on top of your already converted camera with 590nm, then the IR ray of 590nm will be blocked by the 720nm filter, so the 590nm in the camera doesn't do any thing to your final image that will be the image from the 720nm not by combination of both! The only result will be a degrading image. Same as using the 830/850nm, the image will be just back and white, no color at all./850
I have 590nm; 680nm, 720nm, plus 850nm to work on my self home converted P&S compact camera. I like the operating of this simple set up. Good Luck and Happy Shooting!
