We could use the money to build gulags for the politicians, cops, and judges who have been on the take for so long.

Save that money... put em to work in an abattoir for the
duration. Unless you can think of a more hideous occupation? :P

That is certainly an awesome machine, but for the father of a young man that drove one, it is also very frightening.

My son has had a number of Ninja's, but what he hasn't gotten yet is fear. (This is the same son with 30+ jumps as an Army parachutist) And because he doesn't have fear, I do.

He now is a junior at USF and has downgraded to the 636cc version - still plenty quick.

Great photos, thanks for sharing.

I dont mean to scare you but saying the 636 is "plenty quick"
is an understatement.

My message to your son is: concentration is the one single most
important thing. I agree whole heartedly with Keith Code;
particularly with his first book "A Twist of the Wrist". "You have ten dollars worth of concentration" is one of the
quotable quotes. The book would make a great present to your
boy. It's aimed at racers, but it is totally relevant to survival
on public roads too.

Seems to me that in all three activities the money could surely go to a better use.

It could certainly go to worse things, like the pockets
of bent politician, cops and judges.

Sport isn't so bad.

Oh yea, I get it now! It's that thing that rich, trust fund, liberal kids do!

Yep it was just that little (and first) boat that ended
a 132 year old US monopoly on the Americas Cup.

A little unit created down under.

And if you ever set foot
on that 12 metre Yacht you will understand that it could do nothing but win.

Just for the record... you think there is less money involved in football
or motorsport. LOL

Sailing out in crystal clear waters in the Indian Ocean off Perth, Australia, then dropping over the side to go scuba diving ..... now THAT was an experience (and you're right, it involved a sailboat).

Sounds like you were out near Rottnest Island Bob.

And Perth beaches... absolutely magic. I played volley ball
naked on Swanbourne Beach a mile or two South of City
beach there in the 70s. Thanks for the trip down
memory lane

Nice pictures , It is kinda cool that Z on the tank

Yeah... The bike being a "Z" and all, in a very long line of "Zs"
that go back to the Z1 900 of 1972... the original "meet God machine".

Thanks Sonic.

Z1 900. tog unknown.

Providing you have the basics for your family
It all depends on what things.
From personal experience things that give you experiences are good great. I am thinking of motor bikes and sailboats.

There's a bit of a rub there. You buy the "thing"; being a motorcycle
however it can provide experiences that are cherished for a lifetime.
And can continue to provide great experiences.

Just so long as you don't have a head on collision with
a Ford Louisville of course.

The 04-05 ZX10R has the dubious honour of having more insurance
claims in your country of any motorcycle produced.

Touch wood I havn't dropped mine (the one below) for the 50,000 odd km
I've owned it.

It's come off its side stand twice due to my error and once
it got knocked off its stand when a riding buddy "backed" his little V 4 Honda into it though. So my 10 has a little hanger rash but you have to look hard to notice... It gives it a bit of character.

Anyway, here it is snug and warm in its home on a cold and wet Melbourne night.

The reflection of the ladder hanging on the wall forming a "Z" on the fuel tank is a hell of a happy accident that's worth the download to view.

The band of light across the back tyre spins my wheels no end. Makes me feel like Eddie Steichen LOL

You got problems trying to produce what your attempting with either of those two. Just a tad beyond basic Raw file openers.
Invest in Adobe Elements or better still Paint Shop Pro. Neither cost a fortune both can be quite easily mastered and will open up a whole new world of photo processing. Bags of tutorials on the net and lots of help available here.

I do need a better processing program.

However I achieved pretty much exactly want I wanted
(processing wise) with the first and third images.

The second image does need more detail though. I know I could have
achieved that with another small light strategically placed or
as you say, a better processing program.

What would have made the job a breeze is a cyclorama...
Hmmmmm... now where's all that black and white paint.

Not much else to say as Mr. Spad has it right on this one.

Yep, in the first image I agree if the background had no detail
the bike would be the hero with no distraction, however
it is a photo of the bike in it's hanger where it lives
when it's master isn't stretching its legs.

The garage gives the bike its context at that point in time.

Like a horse snug in its stable when it is cold wet outside... as it was.

and another of the set just for the hell of it

Think the second shot could be phenominal but needs a bit more work to show or highlight further detail in the beast.
Possibly blending some under exposed shots with some over exposed shots using layer masks would be a good way to start. Background and floor are working just fine its the bike itself that needs fine tuning.
The first shot is not helped by the background but again blending of some bracketed shots would help.
NOT talking HDR by the way but simple blending with masks and painting in detail.
Shot two would be great to work on.

If you convert your RAW file to a Tiff you can resize it and retain just about all the information that the RAW file contains but its smaller to send via email. The Tiff can then be worked on just like a RAW file.
Think the second shot could be phenominal but need... (show quote)

I have no blending or mask facilities.

Eriks max contrast monochrome( http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-327879-1.html#5589068 ) of the double bass
inspired me to do a series of the below.

I was sending him one of the raw files to work his magic on
however it's too large for his email server.

So I gave the PP a go myself.

Anyway, my ZX10R really puts the "Saki" in Kawasaki!
