Longest Main Street

Island Park is a city in Fremont County, Idaho, United States. The city's population was 286 at the 2010 census, up from 215 in 2000. The city was incorporated by owners of the many lodges and resorts along U.S. Route 20 in 1947, primarily to circumvent Idaho's liquor laws that prohibited the sale of liquor outside of city limits. It is only 500 feet (150 m) wide in most locations and, at 33 miles (53 km), claims to have the longest "Main Street" in the world.

Even though I live on the Idaho side of the pass from West, I don't do any sledding, nor do I go into the park in winter so I can't comment on that. I would hope that you are planning on using a guide service, or a "well qualified" local sledder. Contact them and ask for their suggestions. Any and all will be willing to help. If you get a chance, jump over the pass to Island Park in Fremont County, we have more miles of groomed snow machine trails than we do paved roads. And keep in mind, our Search and Rescue unit responds to more calls for assistance each year than the rest of Idaho combined, so make sure someone knows where you will be, and when you will be back.
