In each situation the circumstances are different and the degree of emergency can affect the procedure's outcome. When adrenaline starts flowing, people can be overzealous or possibly forget some minute details and perform incorrectly or inaccurately. The bottom line, it is better to make the attempt to save a life than to stand by and do nothing.
Take the training, maintain certification of the action, and be prepared to step up, whenever necessary.
