There are two ways of exploring further. One is to examine the situation, looking for other things going on or different viewpoints. The other is to explore with your camera techniques, seeing how the same thing looks with a different treatment, such as a change of focal length or a variation in lighting.

Have fun with you exploration! I look forward to seeing what you see.

Rumours that I am nuts are completely, categorically and utterly without foundation. I can prove this be sharing details of my secret affair with the mailbox with which I fell in love in London this summer..... If this doesn't qualify as "Exploring a subject" then it must be another red card day..... Happy Thanksgiving to one and all.

Oh I know, some of us have taken the easy way out on occassion and posted from archives but the true sense of the goal for me was to improve photographic skills which can also include learning something new by practice, playing with special effects, even organizing our files...mine are a mess, not necessarily going out EVERY day although I think I have.

It is right about this time, when the days get shorter and it starts to get cold out, that I start dreaming about our next vacation adventure.

thinking about the vacations you dream of, show us what it is you like to have it include.

Sometimes I like to stay stateside and sometimes I prefer abroad. Either way there never seems to be enough time and either way its always good to return home.

RED is always an option and VACATION RED WOULD BE SUPURB.

QUIZ QUESTION :can any of you Brits tell me why we often refer to jolly old England as 'Blighty' ?
HINT: The answer lies in colonial times.

Hoping you all will respond: Captain? Sheenagh? Sue ? Anyone?

OK I did cheat a bit! I have a wonderful little book called "Red Herrings and White Elephants" which gives the origins of many old and peculiar sayings........Old Blighty comes from the Indian translation of "foreigner" - Bilayati! Slightly tenuous, but the word POSH originates from thoses ex pats who were rich enough to secure the cabins that would give them the greatest shade on their travels to the east - Port Out, Starboard Home:0)

Abandoned House of Worship. Eire.

Abandoned monastery. I.O.W.

Extraordinary. Someone with a less untrained eye than mine might even describe them as sensual... Well Done...

I watched a couple of videos about how to do this and tried to figure out how I could come up with something similar. I do not have a remote flash so had to rig up some sort of lighting.....a fish tank light set on its side. The kind that has a bar light and not light bulbs (and gives off white light). A black back drop and smoke and mirrors (pun intended). I cut a couple pieces of sheet mirror down to workable sizes and placed them around to help bounce the light around.

There is NO flash used to take these and it shows in the fact that I had to use a high ISO so there is quite a bit of noise in some of them. Also not quite enough light to really get a good sharp focus. There was obviously some PP done on these but I don't think they came out to bad for a first try.

Numbers, Numbers everywhere........ For me, still the most distressing are the credit card numbers that were used to wage #4. Sadly, At 4,075 killed you know it is a very old picture. No idea what it is now.......

There are lots of things that we can add to our Photographs to make them just a little different or more interesting. Today's topic will get us to look for numbers. The number can either be the sole theme of the picture, or an addition to what the shot is about just to add interest. Happy hunting, cant wait to see what you come up with. Here is what I found:
