which part of the world are you located in, if in England. I would be interested in the 85mm.

Thank you that was very helpful, I go for Sigma because of the price difference. I have a Nikon 810, but have, in general, been a little disappointed with the 50-500 4.5 to 6.3 apart from being heavy it does not focus well enough for BIF. I will be purchasing one of the ART lenses like the 85mm though as now you have explained it to me I understand more about the difference. Thank you once again.

The ART series is their premium line. (similar to G-Master for Sony and the L series for Canon)
The 85mm ART is a phenomenally sharp and contrasty lens however I bought the 85mm F1.4L IS Canon lens for the IS and AF accuracy (the Canon lens is not nearly as sharp as the Sigma ART but "good enough")
...Sigma lenses in general, dont AF as fast (or in some cases as accurate) as native Canon lenses. I have heard the AF performance will also vary by body type for some reason. (My 50mm ART performs poorly on my 70D/6D but is quite decent on my 5DmkIV.....after calibration on all)

I am interested in buying the Sigma Art Lens 85mm but don't really understand what the Art bit means, is it because it is sharper or is it for specific tasks ie portraits etc. sorry to be so thick to ask this question but I really don't know and they are producting more and more 'Art' lenses. Thanks

Over the years I have purchased several of the Portrait Professional plug ins, I agree the original one was very heavy handed especially on an older person's face, for younger people it was great. I liked it as it helped me in my PS adjustments. I am one of these people who thinks that if I buy all these things it will make me better at what I am trying to do!!!

Recently I have purchased the Landscape version and another latest one (sorry can't remember which one at this moment) but I am disappointed to say the least, I am finding it difficult to use as it has got complicated and I feel I have wasted my money this time, it was so much simpler before. I would save your money and do a few YouTubes on the piece you want to work on.

Yes I have the manfrotto 393, I was very pleased with it shooting whilst not have to lug it very far, bvut there are a couple of things I would like to mention, firstly it is very heavy so if you go with this option bear that in mind. My biggest bugbear with it is when I am shooting wildlife and I want to be static for the shot the head does not lock down at all. So if you were using a cable release and there was a slight breeze it would turn very slightly, I spoke to Manfrotto about it and they said this particular head is not supposed to lock down and it is a normal function of it to give stability when you yourself are turning to catch the shot. Good and bad really but I find it very annoying as sometimes I want to lock it down, use a cable release and wait for my shot to come into view. Hope this helps.

I purchased by D810 by this method whilst cruising, can't remember the island we landed on to get to the shop, I have not had a moments regret, they are just no tax, purchase tax or vat. Mine would have cost £2.800 in "England I paid £1,300 ish can't remember the extact amount. but the cruise staff recommended this particular shop and said a lot of professionals on the cruise just to go to this island to make purchases, I double checked with a few passengers too. So not all bad just very low prices, just be cautious.

I’m in Saint Maarten right now (on a cruise), and leave in 2 hours. One shop is offering a 850, body only for $1000. Claims it’s made in Japan, with us warranty. Too good to be true? Any thoughts.

Yorkshire is a great place to holiday, just up from Whitby you have Staithes, and Robin Hoods Bay beautiful, quaint fishing villages, it does attract tourists, there are no cars allowed so you have to walk down to it and then up which is a bit of a climb. Some beautiful little non touristy villages all around there. Goathland with its famous steam railway, in my mind, is a must. Catch the train and, lots of shots, travel to Pickering, a few tourists but again a lovely way to spend some free time, when you get back on the train you can go all the way back to Whitby on it, a great experience. The whole area is a magnet to tourists but it is very possible to travel to lots of little villages that are quiet and peaceful to sit and while away a couple of hours. Ask the locals when you arrive at different places, I find they are a wealth of information. Have a great time in York it is wonderful.

I’ve just booked a trip to York for this summer, about ten days. Anybody have suggestions for camera-friendly day trips? We’ll have lots a free time, and would like to find photo ops in the Yorkshire area. Preferably without the tourist hordes. We’re going to spend a day around Whitby (with the tourist hordes), but would really like to get as far away from tour buses as possible. I’m guessing some of you have favorite spots in the region. Thanks in advance for your help.

I agree also don't use them,. I purchased some sandisk CF cards, paid the full amount and they were corrupt, didn't get any money back either.

Strange that cos I know exactly what you mean, also in all my portraits, mainly outside, the legs look short, it is so annoying as a couple of people have mentioned it to me when I show them their photos, must be a lens problem I guess but short legs and fat bodies - no - the ladies don't like it and men always want to look taller. Must be an answer, so come on hogs let us know what to do.

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone could tell me why the people (including me) look much wider in my photos than we are in real life I am shooting with a Nikon D3200 in portrait orientation and no matter how close or far away I shoot- people look fat! Is there a remedy for this (other than dropping a few lbs)???

They are beautiful shots, did they allow you to take the shots with the backdrop or was it a photo opportunity for all as it is such a good idea and very nice memories.
