This event isn't about politics. It is about a world of pain someone has perpetuated on people and families from many countries enjoying their day. I am sure they will find the scumbags that committed this horrendous act on innocent people and bring them to justice. My sympathy goes out to all those affected by this act of violence.

How can make such an inane statement??? I promise you that I know how to use my camera and I quite often use the popup flash for fill light in outdoors shooting. You can check out some of my shots at

http://jimplogger.artistwebsites.com/

Many of the flower shots were done using the popup flash.

Now to the posters original query....the lack of the popup flash should not be a dealbreaker.

Nice shots and the proof is obvious?

Doug, your response to my comment triggered a thought about the scene I referenced. The professional or advanced amateur would probably be able to handle the scene without a flash, either be spot-metering, using experience-based manual exposure or using exposure compensation. Any such shots might require post processing, but the shot is possible. Thanks for reminding me that there are other solutions.

In most cases you are right, but every once in a while!

One of the best shots at the California State Railroad Museum is, unfortunately, brightly backlit. Most photos taken without fill flash are underexposed. Very few people visit a museum with a flash attached to a camera; for most of our guests, an under-powered pop-up flash is a necessity.

While I have considerable equipment to use and reach the solution that is required for the photos I want. I don't really believe a professional would turn down anything that would aid his/her photography under certain situations, and there are many that come to mind. There are many solutions to reach the photo you want and a pop up is just one of them. Nikon supplies this as an addition and many time it is very helpful. On many occasion I have heard Pro Canon shooters that wish for this on their camera and in many cases they have features that I also wish I could access.

Pop up flash on my D700 certainly helps with fill flash when required in landscape or macro.. Anything that helps is welcome.

While I agree with you about the rapid devaluation, it is just like everything else computerized. You buy it today, and tomorrow it is yesterdays news.

Why do I care? I care that so many newer models so close together (and with minor changes) devalue my item and makes mine worth much less when a truly worth while model upgrade does come along. Convince me of the value of a new camera model when the only real change is an increase of 1 or 2 megapixels.

I would phone around and find out what other pros are charging in your area for that type of shoot and time involved. This will give you a better idea of what you and your employer would see as a fair price and then decide from there.

If I'm caught in the middle of a nuclear war, snapping pictures is the LEAST of my concerns.

I agree with you. We should all be glowing in the dark, so photography will come long after survival:-)

I recently purchased a Nikon 510p as a bridge camera and find it allows me to get shots that i was unable to get with my D700. Many times because of the deep snow or other restrictions,I am unable to get near my subject matter when I am in the field doing photography. I also find it less intimidating for many candid and family shots. The 42x makes it possible without breaking the bank or carrying
heavy equipment around at times. I do not miss having the ability to use raw as I find with the 510 their is less adjustments to make. also still use my D700 and its many lens when possible.

both these photos were taken with the nikon 510p

I have always had my cameras and lens repaired and serviced by Nikon. While it is expensive(what isn't these days) I have found them prompt and have never been disappointed. Unfortunately I live a long way from Nikon and it's the postage that is the killer.

Instant gratification seems to be what most people want now and the faster the better. Everyone lives on their cell phone and a built in camera. I have two 4 year old grandchildren that each have their own iPhone and tablet. When i was a kid we used empty toilet paper rolls with string attached to communicate and it was called fun:-). The learning level of young children now is at an amazing speed and it is not all good.

Wow! I have had some calls but nothing that bad. Good think you didn't react and try and grab it or you may have been down there with your camera. While it is expensive, the bottom line is it only stuff and can be replaced in time. I am sure your wife isn't worried about the camera and was happy you came home.

Do you have better examples perhaps some close ups or some with more color?

While you can't see this house. It is under the wires on the far side of the bridge/ to the right. While these are not very sharp as I was not using a tripod, I was amazed at the distance I was shooting.
