I like the contrast of ancient (rock) and modern (dumbness of graffiti'ist).

I have to admit the grafitti is quite bad, but still like the picture, that's an awesome rock.

a million times a billion is 1 quadrillion

a billion times a million is 1 trillion

so a million times a billion is the larger number.

I did this in my head...

You have me confused by the above?
Are you refering to a Tungsten bulb for lighting, or is it exposure setting bulb which can be an indetermined length of time!.

Also your camera settings:
Camera Maker: SIGMA

Can you not set for tungsten lighting or automatic white balance.
Why did you use -1.70 EV and not an higher f stop ?

bulb as in regular house hold bulb.
camera was in white balance manual, because experimenting with different settings trying to get
the picture to look close to what I see, by using different
white balance settings.
Could use auto, but not happy with result.
-1.70 EV, due to this camera having a tendancy to
over expose, showing red on the over exposed areas
during play back.

Like I said camera is new, just going thru the manual,
and learning it.

I am not an expert with your camera; please check which firmware you are using, there is an update to version 1.02 which addresses some Custom White Balance problems see below for details.
Hope this helps you.
http://www.sigma-dp.com/DP3Merrill/main.html
http://www.sigma-dp.com/download/dp3m-firmware.html
Ver. 1.02

Improves the stability of operation.
Improves the precision of bounce flash shooting when ELECTRONIC FLASH EF-610 DG SUPER SA-STTL and ELECTRONIC FLASH EF-610 DG ST SA-STTL are used.
When you enlarge an image, it used to enlarge the center of the image. However, the new firmware magnifies the image depending on the focusing position.
It is possible to select the file name of the image either from “SDIM” or “DP3M”.
It has integrated the color tones of Custom White Balance (Sunlight, Shade, Overcast, Incandescent, Fluorescent, Flash) among the DP Merrill series.
Corrects the phenomenon that the AEL setting goes back to default if the AEL button is set for "Central AEL + AEL", and alternate MF to AF or vice versa, while it is still displaying the operation icon.
Corrects the phenomenon that self-timer shooting whilst using P Mode would cancel the program shift for the customized shutter speed and aperture settings if you press the release button.
Properly displays the image according to the selected magnification
