It's my friend's son, who has helped me out with computer problems, in the past. He either charges a nominal fee or nothing at all. Hopefully, this will be the same.

Thanks again.

Thanks. I did probably do more damage by trying to recover the files with web providers, but this is new territory for me. I just brought it to a computer guy who has professional recovery software, and he will let me know tomorrow.

Thanks again.

I've shot hundreds of thousands of photos and have never had a problem like this. I learned a very valuable lesson. My camera has two cards, and from now on, I'm going to backup on both as I shoot. If one card goes bad or if I screw up, I'll still have the images.

Fortunately, I can go back and re-shoot, but will have to suffer the consequence with the client.

Thanks again for your help.

I downloaded it and tried it without success. It recovered 2 files, but I couldn't open them. It said it was an unsupported file.

I am now trying a deep scan.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi everyone. I need to recover about 9 gigs of photos from my SD card, that somehow got deleted. Not sure how it happened, but I'm sure it was my fault. The strange thing is that most of the images were there and I was able to process them, but about 40 images wouldn't open, and then weren't there at all! I've tried everything I know to retrieve them, but they are not there.

Is there some free software that can be used to recover this much data. I downloaded some programs, but they are not good for that much data unless you purchase it, which I may have to do. I thought I would post it here first.

Thanks, and Happy Holidays.

Thank you. I really appreciate your help & will check out the sites you sent. I was using a Nikon 24-70, which was listed as poor performance, so I'll try other lenses and couple of other Nikon cameras that I have.

I have to leave, now for a trip, but will try experimenting, & let
you know when I get back.

Thanks again.

Thanks, Jim. i will try your suggestion. I did convert the "red" photo to B&W, but it still didn't look right. I'm going away for a few days, and will try some other techniques to remedy the problem.

Has anyone used the Hoya 72 Infrared filter? I tried it on my D800, but all the photos are red in color. I tried adjusting the white balance in camera, as well as, in camera Raw, but to no avail. I understand the exposures are long, and used a tripod, etc., but none of the photos look like infrared photos that I have seen. Is it the camera? I have heard of people getting "red" pictures even after their camera had been modified to shoot infrared, but they said they adjusted their white balance, and that solved the problem.

Any suggestions wil be appreciated.

Thanks, I forgot about those older zooms. I guess I was assuming Bob was using mainly new equipment. I guess I should know better, and never "ASS U ME" Take care. Mike

Hi Bob,

I believe distant settings for DOF, are only on Prime Lenses. I know the older Nikon lenses had them. Zoom lenses do not have have DOF markings, i.e.lines to indicate what the DOF will be in feet. Whatever the "feet number is, that appears between those 2 white lines, on the barrel of the lens, will be in focus. If you have a Prime Lens, such as a 24mm, you will notice these markings i am referring to. To my knowledge Zoom Lenses do not have them. You could buy a DOF calculator wheel, but they are expensive, and in my opinion, not worth the price. Bryan Peterson also recommends taking your lens off of auto focus and placing it on manual focus, and use his technique, which he explains in some of his books. You can email him, as suggested, and I'm sure he will explain much better and in simpler terms, than my feeble attempt, to explain it. Good luck. Let us know how you make out. Welcome to the

group.

Thanks. The only computer that had Vista was my 10" laptop, that I basically used for storing my photos when I was on vacation. My other computers use Windows 7 Professional. I avoided Windows 8 on the recommendation by everyone I spoke with including computer people.

Take care.

Thanks, again, Charles. I actually called them, after I responded to you and they ran the Malwarebytes and removed the threats. I still don't know what i was doing wrong. i removed them and restarted my computer, but they were still there.

I'm currently running AVG, I get-hopefully nothing. take care. Mike

I had a feeling I was doing the wrong thing, but I needed help fast. I was having trouble using one of my computers because there were a million popups. I could hardly use the computer. Another issue was I had bought a tablet and forgot the password. I called Samsung and they couldn't help and told me to call Netgear, but they wanted money to do it, and so i opted out.

This company told me not to use the computer running XP because it was infected and couldn't be fixed. I'm going on a trip and intended to use the XP computer to store my photos as I have done in the past. That's how I found out that ViewNX was working and that Nikon was supporting it any longer. If it was for that I wouldn't have used this company. At first I thought I was talking to Microsoft, but mush later in the process I found out it was a third party company.

Money is money, what's done can't be undone, but my real concern is 1-do they have access to my passwords, etc. Also, I run a program called Malewarebytes. I did a scan afterwards and found 1309 problems. I removed them. But I decided to do several scans and even though I removed the threats, it always comes up with 1309 threats. As you can tell I'm not a computer person, although I'm forced to use the computer to process my photos-one thing I didn't have to worry about in the "film" days.

I appreciate your help, and as I mentioned if it was a one time thing, fine. They got me for some money, but as i mentioned, my real concern is what do I do now. Take care.
