I tried that. Didn't work for me. Lens cap ended up in sand, time wasted during the search and then had to be cleaned before reuse. It was difficult to get the cap to snap in quickly. YMMV.

As many have said and I'm sticking by it too: take cap off before shoot, store in cam bag. Replace cap after shoot or before storing lens.

Agree will work if you always have bag, but I sometimes have cam with selected lens- on boat at helm as one example. I have not had a prob - need to snap the cap on with the same care as with snapping onto lens.

I have been using and happy with this cap holder that attaches to your camera strap. Available from our friends at B&H.

interesting but maybe the states with the highest number of searches are those where the people are more concerned about proper spelling and those in the states listed with the least just don't care.

Thank John for me for his service.
I spent 52 years working for the DON, designing and troubleshooting weapon systems, then in management.
Many days at sea with the fleet. I have the greatest respect for our people in blue (and khaki). They spend many days away from family (Navy tries to make it sound good - "see the world!" - most of the time they only see Navy Gray).
Go Navy!!
And a THANK YOU to all who select a military career for protecting us and our freedoms.

MV has a great public transportation system - buses!
You can buy a day or 3 day pass.
Lets you take pics instead of having to watch the road while driving and also no parking problems. On and off the buses also at unscheduled spots, just wave them down.
For a different evening checkout Shakespeare in the rough at Lake Tashmoo amphitheater on state street out side of Vineyard Haven. Bring your picnic dinner and drinks, sit on the hill and enjoy. Also some great shots of the lake.

WOW!! What a great article - THANKS.
I am just retiring after working 52 years for the DON designing Naval weapon systems and spending many days at sea with our Navy. Didn't go to Nam because I had a "critical skill", but many close friends did. I will always remember them - those that didn't return and those that did including some with physical or mental injuries. Every time I get to DC I visit the Wall, the WWII memorial (my dad), the Koren memorial and thank all those who have sacrificed by serving - GOD bless you ALL!

Where would this great country be without you?

Interesting and NEVER ENDING discussion! I shot Minolta film and when I finally decided to go digital SLR I put Nikons and Canons in my hands - Which one fit my hand was the deciding factor since both offer quality products. BTW I also shot Olympia and Sony non SLR digital. Final choice Nikon felt better. My sister swears by Canon.

THANKS ALL!

JR - I wasn't thinking before posting - will do a search first in the future. Should have dawned on me that almost every aspect of photography has been discussed by very knowledgeable UHHers.

I have always tried to stay away from flash unless absolutely necessary. Definitely don't like the on camera pop up. Have started to use a Nikon SB600 (on D90) and am looking at diffusers. Finding many types. The plastic "cap", the "flat fan" soft strap on, a big "expanded box" that seems to be used only when directing the flash at the subject, a rigid/framed strap on "reflector" with gold, silver, translucent, white panels.
The question - which do you use and why?
Oh - my types of photography where I might use - outdoor with strong backlight, grandkids action, portraits, fill flash.

Sowell was born in North Carolina, but grew up in Harlem, New York. He dropped out of high school, and served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He received a bachelor's degree from Harvard University in 1958 and a master's degree from Columbia University in 1959. In 1968, he earned his Doctorate in Economics from the University of Chicago.
He was almost 9 years old before he lived in a home with [hot] running water.

Thanks ALL,
As I stated above my concern was quality vs protecting from stupid mistakes causing loss of photos.
Looks like being "safe" is OK!

thanks Ester - I have always used the same sequence to ensure I didn't do something stupid and lose a file. Didn't think about the fact that a move could actually be basically the same as a copy = therefore no difference in quality.
