The cropping is done in the camera with APS-C and in post processing with FF.

Not necessarily. Some of us prefer to do no PP unless totally needed. When I had a film {"FF"} camera my primary lens was a 28-80mm lens - I used Kodachrome 25, and did no cropping PP. Now I have an APS-C camera, and my primary lens is a 18-55mm lens - it gives me roughly the same view I got previously, and I still do no cropping. If I ever get a FF camera, I will go back to a 28-80mm as my primary lens, and I will still plan to do no cropping PP. I see no reason to plan to throw pixels away.

1.5*18 = 27
1.5*55 = 82.5

The OP asked how to determine which lens to use to provide the same view without cropping. The simple answer is "multiply the APS-C number by 1.5 and pick the nearest convenient number". Every other answer is introducing "correctness" and/or complexity that the OP doesn't need.

added: so, if the OP were asking the same question, but going from a Medium Format camera, you would advise taking four pano FF pictures and combining them rather than coming up with appropriate focal lengths based on previous usage?????

What a lovely shot. Really captures the essence of a wild deer. Can only say that because so many visit our place in Oregon. (I guess putting out food, as in COB, every morning might have something to do with that! 😉 )

Thank you.

I've never seen one using a path quite this way, and she was so nonchalant about it.

Any free software to create a picture collage?

You should be able to do this with almost any picture-editting software you have for other purposes - just copy from source to destination. You can do that sort of thing with gimp, for example.

My wife and I stopped at a nature preserve on the edge of Windsor, Ontario, this past weekend. As we slogged down a muddy trail, this young lady came the other way up the trail. She stopped about fifty feet from me, clearly puzzled. The sign clearly said "Wildlife Trail" - not "People Trail" - and yet, there we were. Eventually she gave up and went "cross country" through the surrounding woods to get around us.

Corner-to-corner sharpness is a relatively new goal. "Old time" lens designers focused equally on various other aspects of how a lens renders the scene.

I have no idea about Pentax and Sony... whether their FF cameras have "crop mode" and aspect ratio option or not. I don't really care since it's not something I'd use in any case. (I'd just crop in my computer instead.)

By default, Pentax "FF" cameras work essentially the same as Nikon, switching to "crop mode" when using "DA" lenses, but the user can over-ride this behavior.

My wife and I spent this past weekend in Canada, at Pt Pelee NP. One of the sections of the park was formerly a farm .... and over time they are allowing it to "return to nature". I took the first picture below using a new-to-me 28-105mm lens, and as I studied it {locals had conveniently provided a bench there to honor Jack Parson, who apparently had a real passion for the place}, I realized it wasn't what I had envisioned before I took the picture - the view was from too far .... I wanted to convey what it was like to be there, so I switched to my 18-135mm lens. This allowed me to take several steps towards to marsh, and to put some of the distractions {such as a corner of the boardwalk} out of view. This was the view I was seeking - essentially the same framing, but now the viewer was more part of the scene rather than seeming to view it from a distance.

Part of my reason for posting this is that I will sometime I will encourage someone to "step into" the scene before s/he presses the shutter. This is the kind of effect I am thinking of.

From what I’ve seen posted here and online, DX lenses don’t really work on FF cameras.

Not at all true. Using a DX lens on a D850 is almost exactly like using the same lens on a D500.

To hold down paper or not depends on what I bought the camera for. I did not buy it to be tethered to a tripod, which it is now. It is still usable, I took the photo below after I installed the floor boards in the rear of my friend's airplane. As I recall it is a 1.3 second exposure. I arrived at that by trial and error. I take a picture, look at it on the LCD and decide if it needs more light. It has been great for expanding my understanding of how a correct exposure is arrived at, which is good, but not so much if I want to take a shot of my dogs playing, catch a candid moment with my 3 year old granddaughter, or a buddy doing a low pass on our runway on a sunny afternoon.
To hold down paper or not depends on what I bought... (show quote)

That depends on the width of DoF you work with and your skill at manual focusing. Most of the pictures I take today are no more difficult than the ones I took using my manual focusing Pentax Super Program I purchased in 1983. I still use that camera on occasion - in fact it shares lenses with the K-30 I purchased in 2015 - and I find manual focusing with the K-30's "focus confirmation" to be slightly easier than manual focusing with the Super Program's "split prism"

But all this discussion is off topic - I mentioned these options for your benefit. There is absolutely no evidence that current production Pentax cameras at any price level have these problems, and the KP, very reasonably priced at $900, has the upper-scale mechanism which has never had issues.

Be very wary of the cheaper Pentax offerings. I loved my K50 but when the aperture control solenoid failed at 2780 exposures it became a $500 paper weight. I can do long exposures with a tripod and the camera on full manual but little else. The part is only $35 but Ricoh wants $197 just to look at it. When I contacted Ricoh via email they didn't even bother to respond. Apparently this has been a problem since the K30 and extends into the K70 models. I understand the K 3i and the FF cameras do not share the same controller but my recommendation is that if you purchase a Pentax camera buy the longest service contract available and keep your fingers crossed.
Be very wary of the cheaper Pentax offerings. I lo... (show quote)

You have been told partial truth and your response can lead to confusion.

(1) Your K-50 is not a paperweight. What fails is the auto aperture control - the thing that differentiated KA-mount from K-mount. It could still be used with at least some lenses with manual aperture ring ... and there are lots of them out there. Yes, you lose the automation ... you have to set aperture, take an extra step to get right metering, and manually focus, but that is definitely not a "paperweight".

(2) There is a company out in California that fixes this issue for something like $100 + shipping.

(3) No failures have been reported with the K-70 so far - there is a possibility that Pentax changed their parts supplier - but if you're concerned about this issue you can get a KP, which has the same aperture control as the K-7, K-5, K-3 families, and this issue has never ever been reported with one of them. The K-70 is under $500 while the KP is roughly $900.

added: Any brand can have issues. I am a low volume shooter, so it took me seven years to accomplish this, but I had two Canon Rebels in a row die on me with a total shutter count of under 5000, and each had been demonstrating processor issues before it died.

Pentax cameras are not Waterproof, but almost all {including the K-70 and KP} are Weather Resistant, so I am quite willing to carry my K-30 around in rain or threat of rain ... I always had to bundle up my Rebels at the first hint of rain, but now my camera puts up with what I put up with {remembering that vigorous zoom activity could suck some of that water into the system.

You might consider the K-70, which I'd prefer over the KP. At any rate, Pentax is more than viable. It's still best value, IMO.

I think the silver KP is really "cool" looking. When I retire my K-30, that is what I'm going to get.

You are incorrect in one aspect: Your 200mm is 200mm regardless of which body it is on. The focal length does not change, only the field of view. If you were to superimpose the APS-C shot on top of the full frame shot you would find that the magnification is identical.

This statement if factually true, but it is a confusing and misleading statement. No one cares what the physical image on the sensor looks like - what they care about is what the printed image or displayed image looks like, and the APS-C image is magnified more than the FF image is to reach the same printed or displayed size.

To answer the original question, a "FF" camera will act exactly as a "35mm" camera would. If you're told that this was a 200mm lens, which is "equivalent to a 300mm lens on a 35mm camera", then you would want a 300mm lens on a FF camera to get the same image. If you're told that this was a 50mm lens, which is "equivalent to a 75mm lens or a 35mm camera", then you would want a 75mm lens on a FF camera to get the same image.

Exactly. Neither EF nor EFS lenses fit the EFM mount without Canons adapter.

But they will be fully functional, because Canon fully understands the EF-mount.

About two years ago, Google stopped supporting Picasa. Two days ago they removed features like being able to email pictures. I am not real computer savy and would like a free or pay software that will allow me to do what Picasa did without a terrific learning curve. Picasa worked for me. I am not on a cloud and money is not the problem. Just want to store, print, send by email, some editing. PLEASE HELP ME. I feel like my world just collapsed! Thanks Bob

Honestly, in our modern world, there are all kinds of occasions when sending something {not just a picture} as an email attachment is necessary. You need to know how to do that .... and then sending pictures without Picasa will be simple also.

I have a lot more trouble with that than I used to - spend too much time explaining to cops that I'm not a terrorist. Even taking pictures of stations can be an issue, especially if it turns out that a Senator regularly commutes from there
