There are a number of third-party "field guides" to many cameras including the D3300. Perhaps someone who likes a particular author can suggest one? I would like Thom Hogan, but I don't think he has a book for the D3300. I would not want one by Ken Rockwell.

David Busch , in my opinion writes the best 3rd party manuals available. Very easy to understand.

This is the first time I have heard "Crutchfield" and "competitive pricing" stated in a post with a straight face. Anything I have ever looked at from them has been almost criminally overpriced.

It is true for most of their items. Do some research with some of your local stores. I research EVERYTHING and when I determine that I can purchase for less, I go elsewhere!

PS-you started this hobby at a great time-Autumn is one of the most picturesque of all of our seasons. How exciting to be learning during this time of year-pumpkins, apple harvest, leaves, trees, etc., etc.

Welcome Tim. Looks like you got a wonderful entry dslr. By all means read Petersons book about exposure. Please go out and shoot, experiment and learn your camera. But most important, enjoy!

Sooner or later the Federal govt will make a law that REQUIRES all vendors, whether via internet or a physical store, to collect the proper sales/use taxes for ALL SHIPMENTS based on the destination or the shipping point. Those who refuse to pay the tax currently are just forcing their states to raise the existing taxes to make up for the taxes that are being avoided!!!

Government wouldn't have to do that if they went after all those companies that take their business profits overseas, cheating our government of tax money and forcing our citizens to pay their fair share! Close that loophole!

The good deals sound tempting, but you have to call and cancel if you don't want to pay the regular rate.

Just after I snapped this shot, this guy bolted 2 feet from where I was standing. Was quite scary. Took this with my Nikon D40

I call them every 6 months as my subscription is ending and tell them to disconnect because I don't like their service. They keep offering me 6 more months for $20 bucks, which I accept. They try their best not to lose a customer . After all, some money coming in to their coffers is better than none!

One other thing about Crutchfield. They have a rewards program. Make purchases, get points, equals discounts on other equipment. I got a nikon 35mm 1.8 lens for a discounted price of $169.00, free shipping- no tax!
