If you use a printing service, download their ICC profile. If you print your own, make sure you load the appropriate profile for your paper (and ink). After that, set up your PP ap to “soft proof” so you see what the final print will look like using the ICC profile you downloaded prior to printing. In Photoshop for example, you’ll find it under the view menu/proof setup/custom.

Thank you!

I have spent 45 years as an IT professional. I grew up on IBM and then on to Windows PCs. I had never touched an Apple device until 5 yrs ago when I bought a MacBook Pro with retina display to use with photo editing. I had heard the graphics were better and I became a believer when I went to the store. I use the MacBook when I am on the road for a shoot. I bought a Mac Desktop 27 in 5K Retina display for home. I use the Mouse pad. I still use the PC at work, but I will never purchase anything but Macs for my personal use. I run Lightroom and you can't beat the visuals. I calibrate the monitor with a Spyder device and I have no printing issues. To me there is no comparison - for my photography work, Macs are the best tool available.

So, after you calibrate the monitor, how do you get your printer output to match what you're seeing on the monitor? That doesn't always happen for me.

A silhouette has no detail. Below, the buildings are silhouettes, the smoke plume backlit

Great picture Linda! But, just to throw something at the fan (or, maybe to get some ideas for my own PP thinking) - how much of the sky could you crop without screwing up the composition?

Yes, I keep the battery/batteries under my jacket or in my pocket while shooting, that way they never get cold and loose oomph. The only time I'm concerned about moisture is, when I get back into the warmth, but I always have a zip lock bag handy that I place it in, before entering the building!

How about putting the whole kit into a cooler for the ride home and into the house - anyone tried that? How'do it work?

Be careful how you use "humble" - there are people on here who will tear you a new one for that

I knew my mother and the correct term is "non bastardo carborundum". If you are trying to sound smart, at least learn to properly write. IMO, some cannot wait to kiss butt and refuse to analyze the simplest things.

Congrats Scott! I don't know if I'd be humbled, amazed to be sure that that many people would be interested in ANYTHING I did. Some people on here can't seem to pass up an opportunity to show a little contempt or sarcasm when they consider a post or question to be unworthy. Non bastardi carborundum, my friend!

Still thinking - it'll have to be good enough to make SCB proud!

Been away for several months. Decided to take a break from all the "pissing contests" that erupted over a lot of the discussions. Wondering if it's gotten any more civil while I was gone. Some days it was just like the politics on facebook. Hoping it's gotten better. Sister Charles Bronson always said there's no such thing as a stupid question, but some of the "experts" apparently didn't get that message. Maybe I'll ask a "stupid" question just to test the waters. Hope I don't get reamed out too bad.

just wondering if they're clearing inventory (at max price) before a "coming soon" version drives those prices down

so, once you've calibrated your monitor to absolute perfection, how do you get your printer to produce the same perfect image?
