Getting a nice sharp image of the moon isn't easy unless you have a decent long lens. This is one of my favorites, shot with a Sigma 50-500mm lens. You can click on the photo and scroll down to see the EXIF data. As others have stated above, having a sturdy tripod and remote release play a big role.

Something a little different. An F-22 creates it's own cloud.

I will have to remember that about the stars. I loved it there.

Look here at some of my photos if you're curious out how it looks down there in March. I took the Milky Way shots between 3am-6am.

Nice series! I recognize those bridges, and that view with them. Great series, and welcome to UHH.

Thanks! Bahia Honda is our vacation spot every March since the early 80's. Love it there. Also a great spot to take Milky Way shots.

Thanks! #3 was taken with an iPhone. :) And #11 is one of my favorites as well. Took that in Jamaica. You can definitely see a bird in that shot and that is why it is one of my favorites.

Dick,
Pretty good for your first attempt. The only thing I would change is to use ISO3200. You are getting too much noise from post processing. Here is a photo I took at ISO3200, f2.8, 20 seconds, on a D500. Also, 20 seconds is fine and you shouldn't get any streaking of the stars at that speed. I'm assuming either VR was turned on (turn this off when using a tripod) or the tripod was not steady enough.

Great spots for photo ops. Stay in the downtown area and you'll be fine. Below are some shots I took in recent years.

As some others have stated above, the Nikon 200-500 will definitely give you better results. I purchased this lens earlier this year and was amazed at how sharp it is across it's focal range. I also own the Sigma 50-500. Your skill definitely has a lot to do with getting great photos, but equipment does matter depending on what you are shooting. You know the old saying, you get what you pay for...
