Great looking photos. Many of us started out with so called cheap DSLRs, not so cheap in 2007. Probably had 10 megapixels? A lot at that time.

Thanks, You're right it was a D80, the kit lens was a 18-135mm don't think its made anymore. It was a good camera with a decent lens.

I purchased my first camera with a cheapo kit lens back in 2007. My children were patient, at first, but always supportive. Spraying and praying in auto mode, spitting out jpegs. Wish I knew then ...

Mormon settlers while in the Mojave desert thought the trees looked like Joshua reaching toward the sky in prayer.

Raw Vs Jpeg, kind of like the discussion of Manual mode Vs full auto mode. Raw enables the photographer to have more flexiblity in the decision making to the appearance of the final picture rather that relying heavy on the camera. This is not to say one is better than the other, Raw and Jpeg both have their merits. Both will give you excellent results. I shot Jpeg for about a year before I switched over to Raw. In my personal experience I wish I had switched to Raw format earlier, the amount of information that can be recovered and tweaked in a Raw file is amazing. (My motivating factor was being in Jpeg and shooting the entire day with the wrong white balance easily fixed in Raw).
I totally agree with rmalarz about 95% of adjustments being done in Adobe Camera Raw before using Photoshop. I find ACR very intuitive and quick and until recently I never used photoshop, now I use it to stamp my name on photos or to try out focus stacking. A friend explained to me that Jpeg is like having a finished cake, Raw is like having all the ingredients.

I love my D700 and served me well for almost 8 years and still does. I was about to go mirrorless and purchase a Sony A7rII (as a sony employee I get huge discounts) , but felt focusing and battery life wasn't quite there yet but every incarnation greatly improves plus there wasn't a Metabones adapter for nikon lenses at the time. I purchased a D750 about 6 months ago, I am very happy with my purchase. The articulated screen is very useful, at first I didn't think I would use it, but it is great when getting low angle shots, or over the head. The WiFi is okay but kind of clunky. It is about half the rate of frames per second when compared with the D700, I think the D750 is about 4.5 per second and the D700 is about twice that with a battery grip, I really haven't missed the rapid firing of the D700.With the D750 I have more freedom when cropping photos and the dynamic range is wonderful. The D750 is lighter easy to navigate over double the pixels and still great in low light/high ISO. Pictures I have posted taken with a D750 are "Doplets", "Winter at Yosemite" and "Palm Springs, Mount San Jacinto and the valley", all the other pictures were taken with a D700.
