I currently have 3 different cameras: DSLR, a top-rated superzoom, and P&S. Will keep the DSLR and P&S, but am not sure about exchanging the superzoom for some entry level m4/3rds gear.
What would you do?
Here's some random thoughts. The SZ(superzoom)is very convenient, 30X optical zoom, much longer than my DSLR tele lens, smaller and lighter than the DSLR (and gear).
The m4/3rds gear is strongly considered for the future; being lighter and smaller than the DSLR. But I can't get rid of the DSLR yet; as I need it for youth sports shots.
I'm confronted with a deal involving a trade....my NEW SZ for a nice used m4/3rds G1 and a couple lenses.
Would you make this deal?
Thanks for any/all comments. ASAP, please.

I'm sure you'll answer "any camera is a good camera". But, the E-P1 was Olympus's first m4/3rds camera(I believe). I have the chance to pick one up for a very good price with the 14-42 kit lens, and was wondering if it would be considered decent (as far as IQ is concerned) by today's m4/3rds standards, or if it definately shows it's age already. In which case I won't purchase it. I'm sure the newer models are better.
They have more bells and whistles, with a little better/faster/easier this or that. But when the results are in, can the E-P1 still stand up to the "new kids on the block"?

Anyone here planning to upgrade your E-PL? gear? I'd consider your old stuff.

I just always kind of figured that if it was factory refurbished that it at least got some real quality control check before going on the market. That might just beat the random QC checks of the NEW gear.

Whoa, Nellie.
The worst lens? I don't agree. Maybe not the best constructed lens, but certainly not a bad lens from a IQ standpoint. Nope. I feel "worst lens" is a bit over the top. I have produced award winning images with this lens. But anymore, I use a nice zoom instead...making it expendable. To each his own.

How about a nice Canon 50 1.8 II LNIB and some cash for your SX40 IS?

Looking for an inexpensive Olympus PEN, either E-PL1 or E-P1 with 14-42mm kit lens. Could possibly make a cash deal or cash/trade deal involving my LNIB EF Canon 50mm f1.8 II lens.

I've been researching the NEX for a couple of days now. My dilemma comes in when considering that I'd have to dump the DSLR gear to enter the NEX system. I don't have the $$ to have both. If it would turn out that the NEX could do everything that the DSLR can, but in a smaller, lighter package, I'd probably sell off the DSLR and look to seriously acquiring NEX stuff. The youth hockey shots, and if the NEX can handle them, is the main thing holding me back from just going for it now. I'm not sure that it can do it. Though I did try hockey the other day with a Sony HX100V, and it did much better than I thought. It needs some post processing, but not a lot. So if a "P&S" superzoom can do it, I'd think the NEX could do it better.
Comments? Would you sell off your DSLR gear for NEX in my shoes? Other than the hockey situation, I'm sure NEX could cover the rest. It's all about $$$ right now (and hockey).

Is the Nex-5 and the Nex-5n the same?
Then, what was not liked about the new Nikon V1?

Well, you folks are keeping my attention. So what kinds of AF speed do these little MFT cameras boast? Did you pan to get that jet pic so sharp? I would think so.
And about this 75-300mm lens? What are the f-stop stats? And brand(I'll look it up)? Could I conceivably photograph hockey with a good MFT camera and this zoom? I really wouldn't need to go much longer than 125mm(or 250mm) with it if it would allow me to keep with lower (wider) apertures. And......how high can one go in the ISO department....safely?
I got tons more questions to follow these.
But the main thing to keep in mind is.......my ultimate goal is to replace my DSLR gear with MFT gear...and...to be able to shoot the youth hockey games with it if I can.
Thanks much for the comments, thus far.

Photocat,

So is your "600mm" zoom lens, a m4/3rds lens, or a lens for a larger format that has been "adapted" to fit your m4/3rds camera body? I'm sort of leery of a BIG lens adapted for use with a LITTLE camera body.
Then another question. Can the action of the hockey game be viewed in precise real time on the LCD? Or does it have a delay....which might be ever so slight, but a delay nevertheless? The "arms-length" situation is not as important to me as it once was. I have a couple other cameras that I use that way., and I'm getting better with it.

I'm thinking of maybe defecting from DSLR gear to m4/3rds. But there's really only one thing holding me back......I think.
I can shoot my grandkid's hockey games with my Canon T1i and 70-200/4 IS USM "L" lens. Is there anything within the m4/3rds gear line-up that would allow me to do the hockey games as well? I'm thinking I'd like the small m4/3rds camera like maybe Oly's E-PL? or Sony's NEX-? So am I dreaming, or might there be a solution for me? Thanks

Got the chance to pick up a E-PL1 and two kit lenses for a VERY nice price. As I also own a DSLR and smaller P&S camera, knowing that, do you feel that I'd be happy with this entry level (and a couple generations older) m4/3rds gear, to give me a first taste at this medium? Or do you feel that the E-PL1 is already too dated to even bother with? Comment freely. Thanks

I like the idea of the G9 for it's longer zoom, but really want the camera with the better IQ. So, if anyone has any first hand advice, I'd really enjoy hearing from you. Thanks.
