I always shoot at high resolution. This records the most information (detail). Some day you will create the photo that you will want to enlarge and display on your wall. Hard to see a 4x5 hang'n on the wall.

Looks like you use auto focus. Looking thru your viewfinder, do you see a small rectangle in the middle. If so, the rectangle is where the lens will auto focus. As noted in other posts, put the rectangle on what you want in focus ( person, pet), gently press the shutter half way down. Your camera should make a noise or something in the view finder should let you know that the focus is locked. Continue holding the shutter half way down and recompose the shot and press the shutter the rest of the way to take the picture. With a little practice on finger control ( shutter release control ), you will be a pro at having your subject in focus.

I have both Corel Painter and Photoshop Elements 8. Just last week I subscribed to Photoshop Elements Techniques ( 1 year Subscription $59.00 ). The 2 DVD's you get show you everything you need to know about elements. No more buy a program and figure it out on your own. I have a bunch of books on Corel Painter that aren't much help. The Elements DVD's are the absolute best for learning everything in Elements. Corel is just sitting in my computer now. I'm tired of playing around trying to figure out how to do something with it. I am learning more than I ever thought possible with the Elements DVD's.

If you can see it, it is not deleted. Once the image is displayed with a red line thru it, the camera is asking if you want this image deleted. The next step is to press yes or no. This extra step is there so you don't accidentally delete a photo you want to keep.
