Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Both are beautiful cars in their own right. It is unfair and unnecessary to compare them. It's like comparing the taste of oranges to bananas. Some like one, some like the other, both are right.

View Camera!!! That was a truly thought provoking rag…as is/was a number of other now-demised magazines.
As noted, the experience of a printed issue is so much more gratifying than flipping ‘pages’ on a monitor.
Is the pool of interested photographers so small that printed versions are not sustainable? Would be informative to know the actual business model involved…,

Alas, the demise of print magazines is not by any means limited to the photography genre. It is across the board. Readership has declined to the point where advertisers are unwilling to sink their money into the print issues which quickly renders them unprofitable. Thus the printed magazine business is slowly sinking into the morass of mind-numbing online "publications." This has actually been going on for several years. It started out slowly with magazines like "Saturday Evening Post" and "Life" but is gaining steam and speed. Soon, printed magazines will be collectors items and you will only see them in museums.

Apparently, Outdoor Photographer Magazine, which first appeared in 1985, has published its last issue, June-July 2023. The magazine was purchased by The BeBop Channel Corporation earlier this year as part of an acquisition of the magazine's publisher, Madavor Media. Reportedly, the magazine had not paid its contributors for some time. The staff was fired in May.

The magazine itself was held in high esteem, and to contribute content for it was a mark of honor.

Digital Photo Pro, Imaging Resource, Digital Photo, and Image Creators Network are on the chopping block too.

Outdoor Photography, an excellent publication from the UK, continues to be published.

Unfortunately for us old duffers print magazines are dinosaurs. The day is coming (sooner rather than later) when there will no longer be any print magazines. Personally I think that's a shame but that's the times in which we live.

Here, they send you a card once a year and you have to take it to the courthouse and hand it to them within a certain period of time. That's all. When you first sign up, you have to show them something official that has your picture and date of birth.

Interesting. In Texas it's one and done.

In Alabama, if you are over 65, you do not have to pay property taxes at all.

Same in Texas, provided the homeowner files an exemption affidavit with the Appraisal District between their 64th and 65th birthdays. This does not forgive the tax and does not stop interest from accruing; it only stops any and all legal action as long as the homeowner retains ownership and lives on the property. A lien is filed against the property and it, along with accrued interest and fees, is collected when the homeowner's estate is settled. Most of the time this means the heirs will have to sell the property to pay the lien, then the remainder of the proceeds is part of the estate.

This means those who don't have the resources. There are those cases and it does not mean that everyone would come up with an excuse and not pay. I have not changed my premise...

I suppose the government people would decide who does not pay. It really doesn't matter how long it takes. I do agree that there is usually a long time before the axe falls. I also agree that there are arrangements that can be made. There are, however, exceptions. Maybe only a few year.

I can afford the taxes and so, apparently, can you. There are always those who try to game the system but that is not everyone and there is no way that governments fail under the circumstances.

You seem to have a very optimistic outlook on human nature. I do as well, generally, but I also believe in the equal application of the law. This is where we differ and, I think, always will. BTW, many locations have hardship exemptions and take this into account. Not living in one of those, I have no idea how it works; I only know they are out there.

Have a heart! The idea that no one would pay is a bit off the wall.

You investigate the peoples situation and if they truly can't pay then give 'em a break. If they are just trying to game the system, take the property. Maybe even levy fines.

The government is unlikely to collapse.

Ed

So anyone with a "good enough" excuse would be off the hook. Is that about right? After that it is just a matter of deciding if a person's excuse is "good enough." Who decides that? This leads to unequal application of the law which leads to corruption, which is part of the problem we have today.

Aside from that, you are conveniently ignoring the fact that tax foreclosures take months at least; in many cases they take years. During that time the property owner is given many, many opportunities to pay the past-due tax or make arrangements to eventually pay it.

You changed your original premise from everyone to only those who are truly unable to pay. Under your original premise no one would have to pay, so no one would. Not so "off the wall." Under your revised premise excuses would abound, and most of them would be either very creative or very convincing, if not both. People would be looking for any excuse at all that would be deemed "good enough." This is a natural result of the fact that no one likes to pay taxes and will do whatever they can to avoid them.

"Have a heart" you say. I do have a heart but I also have a practical side that says we all pay our fair share.

And that begs the question of why the government is allowed to take our property for taxes in the first place.

So what enforcement action do you propose? If there were none then no one would pay any taxes. Then the government would collapse and anarchy would ensue. Therefore there has to be some enforcement mechanism. What would you suggest? If it can't be property confiscation then what form should it take?

I think a better approach would be for the delinquent property to be sold, the taxes paid from the proceeds, and the balance returned to the defaulting owner.

This was the result of the recent court decision to which Jerry referred. A home was sold for a lot more than the back taxes that were due. The taxing authority kept the overage for themselves. The court ruled that that was in violation of the 4th amendment (and possibly others - I'm relying on unreliable memory) and said the excess must be returned to the original owner.

Nice collection of images. While I thoroughly enjoy lovingly restored and/or tricked out vehicles, I gotta say that 41 Willy's is garishly overdone. I have a firm understanding of "to each his own" so I hope my OPINION does not offend.

Doesn't bother me. Personally I prefer cars that are restored completely to original. They more closely maintain our heritage and history. However I also like a well-done custom and/or "tricked out" examples as they exude creativity and hard work. Kudos to both.
