As you take portraits, write the name on a chalk board or something and make that the first shot you take. You then have the name and that applies to all the succeeding photos. Next person comes in for a portrait, take a photo of the new name.

If the file name gets changed, LR will still be able to organize things by capture time/date and preserve the sequence (although note that you can edit the capture time/date in the metadata panel).

It would probably be sufficient to add the name as a keyword in LR. That will allow you to search for all the occurrences of a given name.

Bar Code: I found https://www.generateqrcode.net/generate_barcode
That site allows you to generate bar codes (there are a lot of different types) or QR codes (those square things).
I tried it out to generate a bar code

My thought is - it's nothing new/cutting edge. I've had the capability in ON1 for some time, and I'm sure most of the other better processing programs will, also.

I didn't know on1 could do that.

I guess you could convert an Excel spreadsheet into an ASCII file and import names as keywords, but I don't think that's what you want. I'm interested in the question, so I'll watch this post to see if there's a way.

Thanks for your reply. I am also looking into bar codeing

One of the great features of Lightroom is the ability to tether your camera to your computer and import portraits as you take them directly into the program. I use this feature when I am doing headshots for composites because Lightroom allows me to change the filename to the name of the individual being photographed. In past years I have used an assistant at the computer who asks each person for their name, last name first, then a comma, then the first initial. Then my assistant sends the person to me for photography. I generally take several shots and lightroom dutifully appends the name of the individual as a prefix to the photo file name. So, for example, image number xxx.1234.jpg becomes Jones,J1234.jpg. This is a great improvement to looking up the person's name on an alphabetical excel spread sheet and writing the image number next to the name.
NOW for my question. . . Since my client provides me with an excel spreadsheet with the names of the people being photographed, is it possible to import that data into lightroom before photography takes place? I figure if this can be done, all my assistant would have to do is scroll down the list of names, find the person who is being photographed, and click on their name. Lightroom could then append the name to the digital photo file thus speeding up the process.
I am also looking into perhaps barcoding the names, but I do not know what is involved in that process. At the present time I have 213 people to photograph and then (artfully) arrange them on a 24x36 headshot composite with the last name, first initial underneath each individual photo.
If you have experience with something like this I will greatly appreciate any advice you can give.
Thanks in advance

I received an e-mail on another forum touting this program, "Radiant Photo". I looked at the examples provided and it looks impressive. Has anyone had experience with this program? I am interested in all comments.

I'm new to this, but you can get Aomei for free. Run that and select Image to make a disk image. Macrium Reflect used to have a free version, but no more. You can make an image using Windows, but I've heard that it's not as straight forward as using other software.

Thanks Jerry, as always UHH comes through with good advice and answers. I appreciate everyone on this forum.

I have been using Windows for a looooong time and have never used a recovery disk. I wish I could say I never needed one. I've always had to reinstall the whole thing and as was noted, had to reinstall all of the old programs as well. Please advise me as to how to create a recovery disk, and how to use it. I guess I have overlooked this feature.

This is a scam that has been around for several years. There is a hog thread about it somewhere. In essence the seller posts something at an incredibly low price. (A big red flag but when you are having a GAS attack you become irrational). In my case it was a Z6 camera. You pay through Paypal which is supposed to protect you somewhat. The seller sends a dummy package to any old address he chooses, usually in your area. The dummy package in my case was sent through UPS. After a few days you start to wonder where your item is. So you use the tracking number and it shows the package delivered. You go looking. You check the porch, your neighbors, etc. Then you call UPS, they show the package delivered, (In my case to a Dick Morris at an address across town. There was no such address) You call UPS back you tell them no such person at a bogus address, They refuse to help you they show they delivered the package. Then you call Paypal. They WON'T help you for the same reason, Package was delivered. I was fortunate in my case because at the time of purchase Paypal was pushing their credit card and I took advantage of their offer of zero% interest for 24 months. I called the credit card company and they refunded the money immediately with the caveat that if the seller was legit I would be out of luck. It has been two years so I think I'm safe. I know they'll be lots of sympathetic replies as well as a lot of sarcastic ones. That's just the way UHH works. I wish I could say something positive to give you encouragement but I'm afraid you are out of luck.

I love fruitcake and look forward to it during the Holiday season. For years I asked my wife to make fruit cake but she never seemed to get around to it. I finally decided to take matters into my own hands. During the pandemic I started baking bread, so. . . how much harder could making a fruitcake be? I found a recipe on You tube very similar to the one on the first page of this thread. I, of course, added more dried fruits than the recipe called for. The results were great and I finally got my fill of Holiday fruit cake. But it didn't stop there. My wife took half of the cake I made, (it was huge), and froze it. Once a month until June I would take it out and indulge. Now it's time to make another. Maybe I'll be able to stretch the time till it's gone to next September. I really have to admonish my wife though. . . she's really doing the laundry all wrong. My pants keep shrinking!!!

You need to turn off custom setting d8, Apply Settings to Live View. You are seeing what the photo would look like without any flash applied. The camera cannot show you the picture with the flash before the flash occurs.

Turn d8 Off to adjust brightness and hue in the EVR or the back screen for ease of viewing.

This was the correct solution to my problem. My d8 setting was indeed on. When I turned it off everything worked fine. Thanks for the help Bob.

Hello Hugh,
Is this a camera menu item? I haven't seen it but I will hunt for it now. Thank you for the reply.

I recently bought some Wescott FJ400 battery powered strobes. I had trouble syncing them with my Z6. I called Wescott and was advised to turn off the electronic shutter in the camera and only use the manual shutter. I did this and the problem was solved. Now another problem has arisen. When I am shooting portraits in the manual mode all of my adjustments for proper exposure are replicated in the viewfinder. To give an example, the correct exposure for ambient light in the studio may be one fourth sec. at F4 everything looks and photographs great through the view finder. However, the correct exposure using the strobes is 1/100 sec at F/8. The resulting image is correct when the file is viewed. In the viewfinder, however, the image is so dark you cannot see the subject. I have obviously messed up a setting somewhere that allows me to view the image normally rather than at the correct setting for the strobe flash. Can anyone advise me as to how to correct this? Thanks in advance.

I've no knowledge of your strobes and you do not mention how you are triggering them. But I have a Z6 and a recent post by someone regarding triggering from other than Nikon gear revealed that the sync speed must not be on the FP setting. It may be worth you checking your sync setting to see if that sorts things.

If I put a Nikon flash on the Z6, when powered on in any mode changing (reducing) the exposure from say f/4, 1/4s to f/8, 1/100 the brightness of the scene in the EVF remains the same. From what is happening to you suggests the camera is not recognizing fully the trigger mounted.

Can not think of any other settings applicable, but that's not to say there aren't any.

I do not know what the problem is as yet but I hope the thread continues. I'm pretty sure that the transmitter, (set for Nikon), is not the problem. I'm thinking it is a camera setting I'm missing
