I posted a shot on FB recently and a friend suggested it might look good in B&W. While I love B&W and have made quite a few shots into B&W, this particular shot had such nice tones in blue, rusty reds, and yellow that I felt it might not work as well for a B&W. I did make one and then also one in sepia to maintain some of the warmness of the color one. Lastly, I did a hybrid of the shot to give some color back. Here are the four shots -- what do you think?

Like the hybrid the best. But also like original. Don't like sepia. B&w is ok but original and hybrid are better. But this is just one woman's opinion for whatever it's worth. Really like composition.

Is the D800 ok with DX lenses. I know there is a crop but is there anyone with first hand knowledge of the results?
I am looking at one for $800 (Canadian) About $550 (American.) Is it a good deal? There are not enough for sale in my area to judge. Please……only people with experience with this.
I would be looking at FX lenses down the road.

My d800 was a wonderful camera. But after 10 years and 183000 actuations it quit. Nikon discontinued making parts more than a year ago and my closest camera shop would not look at repairing it. So I went mirrorless Sony a7r iva. Expensive especially with the Sony 209 600 lens. But much much faster and much better suited to birds I shoot. So depending on what you want it for and depending on the actuations on the camera, you may want to reconsider an updated camera.

oh Florida! I did see your private note and the comment about how fast they grow. Its amazing. Last year there were two full grown chicks and the mom pushing each other out of the nest. Eventually mom left, leaving the owlets in the nest for a couple more weeks but my bet is she was somewhere around looking for hawks.

Nice set Linda. The owls look similar to the shots I posted several weeks ago. Different trees.

I am going tomorrow . Where was your owl ? On the bittern trail? My owl was right at the corner where you make a left hand turn and drive parallel to the dairy/farm/solar panels and perpendicular to Sandy Mush Rd. I hope to see some more apparent owlets tomorrow.
