Without breaking my bank account, can you tell me what is a good photo enhancing software? I'm not new at taking photos but still have a LOT to learn. I really don't want to sit in front of my PC all day everyday learning - so pleease do not send me don't that rabbit hole. Someone is pushing me to get LightRoom Classic cc.??? Oh, I looked at some ratings and to me it's like shooting fish in a barrel. If I shoot I bound to hit one. So many to choose from - IT's confusing! HULP! THX

OneShotOne, some camera manufacturers include free photo processing software with camera purchase. Apple and Windows also have photo processing software for free. If you use mobile devices most have built in editing capabilities. For better mobile processing, you could try my favorite app, Snapseed. Works great for basic editing and posting or saving photos and is super easy to use. Its available in App Store or Play Store. Snapseed will only work on a Windows computer if you run an emulator. And of course as mentioned previously for $120 per year you can get the basic Adobe package, free 7 day trial period. It will work across multiple devices and multiple platforms including your mobile devices so you can have one processing package that can be used with any device.

Best of luck finding the right program.

I have the 16-300 on my 7DmkII and have been very happy with the overall performance for and yes it is not as sharp as my Canon 100-400L it's also not as heavy. My question for those that have shot both, is the image quality overall, same, better or worse with the 18-400 than with the 16-300 ? I've been through the archives but still have the same question.

Hi Norman, was wondering if you made the plunge? I just spent a week in Kotzebue Ak using the 18-400. It works really well and the extra reach is nice. I tried the tap in console for update but didn't try any different settings. I am getting more used to the lens and the focus is really good. My travel companion tried it out and ended up ordering the lens. Should arrive Monday. I used the lens tonight shooting some owls in the sunset and was pretty impressed even with the low light. I'd be curious to know how it compares to your 100-400 L. Bet it's definitely much lighter to carry. After spending more time using it I'm thinking overall it's probably worth the upgrade and you can easily sell your 16-300. So far I'm happy with my swap. Good luck. Curious to know what you think if you pick one up.

I had the 16-300mm on my 80D and moved up to the 18-400mm a few months ago. The 18-400 is just as good or better throughout the zoom range and coupled with the extra reach I recommend it as a good upgrade.

I also had the 16-300 on my 80D, I really liked it but was able to trade it in for a Canon 24-70 L. After missing the extra zoom I purchased the 18-400. My impression is that the new one is not as sharp and it also lacks the wider view. It doesn't seem as well made but that is just an impression. Overall the lens is light weight and easy to carry on the camera. The zoom adjustment is not as smooth through the entire range. It is comfortable to use even with the focus ring up front. The focus is a little off, I bought the Tarmon tap-in console today so I could do the firmware upgrade and try some minor adjustments on the focus. I've only tried shooting with it hand held so far. I'm sure it would be sharper with a mono or tripod but if you're using it for an everyday shooter you probably won't have one. I'm not sure it's a move up, unless you have extra money to burn. You could get a better used lens and keep your existing one and have the best of both.

I am interested to know how do people travel with their cameras. I trave quite a bit and try to put everything in our hand carry, but just in case I always maintain some form of insurance for all my gear. I usually bring pacsafe v25 backpack with a small hand carry luggage (fits the overhead bib) to carry other camera gear, cleaning supplies, flash and other miscellaneous items. I also keep some extra clothes in the same luggage.

For air travel I use a well padded roller bag to carry tele lens, mono with head and other heavy gear along with a few days of clothes for extra padding. It goes in the overhead or can be gate checked and has a double reinforced handle. It zips completely open so all of the electronics can be quickly removed for TSA inspection. And it has pack straps for times when rolling is not an option. For work travel I also carry a large computer bag for 2 laptops, extra cables, chargers and another change of clothes. For personal travel I switch that to a small carry bag to keep close at hand, in it are laptop, snacks and extra change of clothes. Either of these 2 bags will go under the seat even on regional carriers and both have sleeves to slide over the roller bag double handle. I'm getting too old for carrying anything through the airports every week. For times when I do carry I recently found a strap that I really like and have replaced the straps on all of our travel bags. Called i-stay, see at i-stayput.com. My bags aren't completely waterproof so I have a cover for them when traveling by boat, sled or atv. Also carry some assortment of ziplocks and several garbage bags with zipties. Good for dirty clothes, occasional honey bucket liner, open water boat rides or water crossings. Even small doses of saltwater are horrendous. If for some reason I need to ship gear for work I use pelican cases. Rugged and waterproof.

Every bag has minimal compartments to make for easy access and save weight. I use hats, gloves and clothes for padding.

I like to have my camera in hand with 24-70 lens. The newer phone cameras take some really good photos so also have that in my pocket.

I've been traveling and working in remote areas of Alaska for 30 years and never had travel insurance. Maybe lucky but personally think it's a scam.

Recently I've been rethinking where I'm going to carry the Mavic when I get one. Might need bigger pockets.

Good luck with your packing, may your journey be safe and full of incredible sights.

I spent several hours watching Short Ears hunting and learning how to capture them in flight. They are very interesting to watch and super efficient hunters. At the end of the day when I was nicely chilled, my efforts were rewarded with some posing.

Hello UHH, I've been following topics for sometime and got around to joining this morning. I don't have time to look at or read everything here but for what I can it's very informative. Too many kids, dogs and work. Looking forward to learning reading and seeing more. Thank you for sharing everyone.
