As wildlife photographers here in the Black Hills of South Dakota, we’ve been waiting for the mergansers to display their new born. I managed to photograph one family with 7 babies floating down the creek (displayed previously on UHH) but this was the first merganser family to bring their babies to the main lake. Photos taken with the z8 and 500mm pf lens. I count 19??

Are you sure it’s a golden eagle. Looks like an immature bald to me.
I agree, if you look at the beak you can see it’s a member of the Haliaeetus rather than the Aquila eagle subspecies
Well, the Osprey are still busy sitting on eggs so there are fewer opportunities to film them diving into the water. That will increase when they’re feeding chicks. So looking for other babies to photograph. Goslings, ducklings are readily available but not what I was looking for. So here are some shots of animals I was was anxious to see… hope you enjoy!
Great set of photos! But the Osprey on the fence post really stands out for me. The harrier in flight is a really difficult bird to photograph because it’s always moving.
Great shots! Sharp, nice detail!
Nice shots, Ronnie! Still using the D500 combo? If so, it’s working well for you!
All great shots! One of the reasons I’m keeping my 300mm f4 pf!
Excellent work! The black/white are 👍😍!
Nice shot! You have some excellent subjects in your area. We have not seen as large a variety of song birds this year as in the past.
Nice shot! The VR with that combination is rock solid for hand holding, isn’t it!
