I used them for a riverboat trip in France to celebtate the 70th anniversary of D-Day. They were excellent.

Thanks!

Hi, all. Perhaps this isn't "quite" the right place for this, but I have a question about Vantage Travel. They have a number of "expedition" trips that imply an emphasis on photography, at least getting you to some interesting places and subjects. Anyone have any experience with this company? Are their tours good? Is it a good company? Any advice/comments appreciated!

We were in Bratislava in 2014, too, but the weather was awful. Heavy and continuous rains until our last evening there. Nice to see what it looks like in better weather! Good shots, David!

Thank you all for the helpful comments! I really appreciate it. It’s reassuring to hear all the similar stories. I might check back in with an update after the second eye is done next week.

I looked at several of your most recent image posts and for the large part they appear fine. One of the "Chilean volcano" images looks a little too saturated, but even that's not all that bad (top image, color of the sky seems unrealistic to me). I'm viewing your images on a calibrated monitor and am using a color managed browser.

Some of what you are seeing may be "mental". It takes a while after your vision is changed in any way for your brain to adapt. For example there was an experiment done where people were given glasses to wear that turned their view of the world upside down! After a few days wearing those 24/7, their brains "flipped" the image right side up. After that happened they stopped wearing the glasses and once again the world appeared upside down for a few days until their brains re-adjusted. Probably the same thing happens with color.

Thanks for the analysis! Good to know things haven’t looked too bad lately. I’m looking forward to doing some Processing with both new lenses soon.

Some years ago my Dad had cataract surgery on both eyes (not at the same time). After it was done and fully healed he no longer needed glasses to drive, even at 90 years old! He still wore reading glasses at times, but didn't need them for anything that wasn't close. (P.S. My sister and I sort of felt he needed to stop driving for other reasons... but his vision wasn't one of them. He had some interesting driving techniques!)

Yes I had my better eye done first. I could clearly see the difference between eyes. The eye with the new lens was now clear white, with a hint of blue. The other eye was still yellow. Two years later I had the second eye (my problem eye, with a retinal detachment and repair and still some distortion) done. Shocked that there was still a color difference between eyes. I asked the doc if the two lenses were identical or had different color tints. She insisted they were the same product. She really didn't have an explanation that made sense.
I do go back and increase whites or exposure just a bit on some photos now and I always cover the bad eye just to see the best color.

Thanks! I have a similar situation but had the bad eye done first. Interested to see if there’s any difference after the better eye gets a new lens next week.

The brightness you're experiencing will subside rather quickly and you'll consider your new sight to be normal. I didn't notice a temperature change. What I have had difficulty with is getting the proper correction for computer work. Reading is no problem with 1.75 but something at arm's length takes some experimenting.

Thanks! Good luck with the correction issue. I have that to look forward to.

Yes, that is a surprising and welcome change. My eye doctor's office had two paintings done by a patient before and after cataract surgery. There was a definite difference in the tint of each.

Interesting! I think I would have fit right in there.

I had cataract surgery in 2019. I did not notice any change in colors, either temp or brighter. After talking to others I guess I am one of the oddballs. That's not unusual for me. :-)

The view through cataracts is yellowish. Every patieny notices that.

With both eyes fully repaired, I've now reviewed plenty of photos that I have edited in recent years. I see nothing in need of correction. In particular there's no yellow-blue balance problem.

Thanks! Good to hear.

I had the first of two cataract surgeries yesterday and now notice that in the “new“ eye, colors seem brighter—not surprising—but also much cooler than in the other eye. The difference in color temp seems to be about 4000K or more between the two, obviously because the yellowish lens is now gone. Now I wonder if color photos I’ve processed recently look overcooked or color-shifted. Anyone else have similar experiences?

Two views of Vulcan Osorno, an 8,700 foot cone volcano in the Los Lagos Region of Chile, photographed last month. It lies between Llanquihue Lake and Todos los Santos Lake, or Emerald Lake. One of the most active volcanoes in southern Chile's Andes Mountains, it has erupted 11 times from 1575 to 1869. Currently, it is relatively quiet and has glacial ice at the summit all year. In winter, there is a ski area on the upper slopes, below the glaciers.
