I hear what you are saying but it's not as bad as it it appears. It's terrible for one lady, out of the row of houses who has lost her home. The others were all holiday lets, so at least they are not in the same horrible position as the poor woman, homeless. She had lived there for twenty two years. It also appears "allegedly" that the water authority are being blamed so they may be compensating the people.

That's good news Graham, although not for the one lady. I hope they get her fixed up.

Fergus
The ground has got so wet with all the rain we have been having, the weight of it as slipped forward, similar to a landslide or avalanche. The ground slopes downwards towards the cliff face. The streams of water wash away the face and then the heaviest part at the top, slips down the entire cliff. It came to rest against another row of houses further down the cliff. The houses that are being demolished lost all their gardens at the front of the houses. That's when all the houses were evacuated Luckily the whole row of houses didn't cascade down.

More pertinently Graham, think of all the poor folks displaced from their homes by this tragedy. I would imagine that being Whitby, some of those folks would have lived there for years.

Hello, just retired a couple of years ago and love photography. I currently take portraits as I purchased a mobile studio set up. Right now using a Sony A300 with the 80-300mm lense. Of course I have the kit lense 18-75 mm but will purchase new camera soon. Bought this when they first came out years ago and love it. I use Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom 3 for post production. This is merely a hobby for me at this time.

Welcome GMW from another A300 user. The camera does all I need for now and with access to all the fabulous lenses from Minolta on the used market, I find it great.
Shoot away and have fun.

... it could have been this particular bus, but there were lots of em on that route ... She was operating from quite a few of the city garages but spent most of her life at "Thornton Heath" ... She was new to that garage in 1950.

Don't suppose you have any old photo's with London buses ?

rt1379, I realize there would have been a number of buses on that route but seeing the route displayed on the front of the bus, I couldn't resist. :-D

Sorry, don't have any shots of buses of that era. At that time (late 60's) I had dropped out of photography for a while.

You are most welcome stryvya. I read all the HOG posts every morning. (presently quarter to eleven my time; quarter to five yours.) You will find the HOG is most addictive.

Click your name 'gbh46' and profile will open up. fill in what you need. Not sure on photo post. forgot how to do it but use the search on the top tool bar and search for 'insert photo into profile'. an answer should come up.

hello dundeelad (John) - I think...yes that is a saying from where I come from originally in the north of England. There are quite a few more which will probably spring to mind later.

I'm from Yorkshire myself, gbh46, so understood it immediately.

'Thick as a brick' is another that comes to mind. :-D

This ended up with 47 layers with 89 adjustment layers.
P.S. I have nothing against Nikon as I own both Nikon and Canon cameras.

Amazing image. Title: 'Nikon recalls lithium batteries due to overheating.'

Just saying Hi to every one.

Is there anyone else from west Cornwall on here??

Just completed a 10 week P/T course at the local College and raring to go.

Using a Canon SX40 which I am finding fairly easy to use after a Panasonic FZ45, just could not get my head around the Camera.

Welcome to the HOG Stryvya. There are a bunch of folks from Cornwall on this site. I am sure someone will respond to you.

"Daft as a brush". The colloquial English is hilareous isn't it?

To dundeelad, will try and get a few shots of the white horses that are spread around Wiltshire and post in the near future.

Maybe my memory is going (pretty likely :D ) but I thought the chalk white horse was on Salisbury Plain.

Fabulous shots Briace. I guess it emphasises the fact that I doubt there are many people left around anymore, that could create such breathtaking artwork like this.

Post a photo of that incredibly beautiful 'White Horse' when you get the chance. I know all the UHH'rs would love to see that.
A warm welcome to the site.
