So, I entered this local Photography contest for a $2500.00 grand prize 1st place. I was watching it live from the "Live view cam" because we "the photographers" couldn't be there during the vote. and noticed a huge line of cars pull up all at the same time.
Getting to my point...
A lot of great photographers had submitted their work. And a new photographer this year had entered for the first time. That line of cars was all the family and friends of the "New Photographer" who's work really "SUCKS" by the way. Any who, they all got out of the cars and separated quickly because apparently they was told it would disqualify her automatically. A total of 86 votes on the worst photograph on the table. It had zero before they showed up. I came in second at 42 votes, and 3rd was a good friend at 19 votes. The way I see it, that photographer should have been disqualified after numerous photographers went and complained on the winning vote. Not one person from those vehicles even looked at the other art on the table it was a quick 1 go then the next go, even watching the first one go back and tell everyone where it was located on the table.
I am wondering what everyone else thinks about this? And if anyone can answer the question of why the judges couldn't rule her out do to the obvious situation?
Thanks all!
Bruce H, I will find some time and upload a video on youtube com and post the link... work has my hands full this week...
deanna_hg, It kinda runs in the family on my father's side! Love to play!
annemarie, you're right about that... Something I completely over looked. Great catch, thank you for the heads up...
Nicely done! Exactly what is the resolution of this photograph with having so many photographs attached?

Could you turn into the window just a tad more, maybe that would bring your right elbow out of the dark. I know that's your arm but it could be anyone's arm coming into view there. I like that you are using the natural light coming through the window, not always a easy shot to pull off.
Thanks! I agree, my arm is a bit out of sight. I tried several shots and this one was the closest I could get with my arm in as the violins scroll (head) was about 1/4inch away from the window and I didn't want to scratch the surface. My lens was a "Sigma Canon 18-50mm 2.8-3.5" and was set at about 28mm. I was going to take more but my kids woke up so this is the best one of all of them.
I think I took about 30 different shots before I got the natural light to look correct through the window. All around I do believe I ended up with about 80+ photographs and this is the only one I liked well enough to keep. I will try your idea, when I get more time (kids take a nap).
Thanks for your feedback!

I play a ton of different instruments, mainly stringed. Been playing for years and have at least 1 of each instrument I play. I really love the sound of the violin in my case fiddle. I am introducing you to my "$4,000.00 Cremona Maestro Special Edition Natural Tone Violin". I remember taking this out of the case and tuning it for the first time. The sound was and still is, so beautiful! Just thought I'd share it with you...
I only play by ear as I cannot read sheet music and tabs are just to difficult to mess with as they do not carry a rhythm at all. Sound is my specialty and I use it with care!
What do you think of the portrait and what could I have done different? Remember, I was the one behind the camera and in the lens.

I opened it in Bridge and then selected Camera Correction and reduced the Blue Saturation and was able to make the snow whiter. Others with more expertise may be able to come up with better solutions.

Taken with a Cannon A40 f2.8 1/80th sec. Don't know what the white balance was.
I've tried and tried in PS to get the blue out but have been unsuccessful. (not that it's a great shot, I just thought if I could figure out how to fix it I would have another tool for when I have a picture I really do want.)
Any snow in the shadows is blue.

I simply used PS (Levels) to do this...

I saw that on the news here very sad hope he makes it home ok.
Thank you, but as it has turned out, his body was found the same day I posed this. It's a very long story but it seems his partner may be the main subject as they found the co owner of the businesses car abandoned and on on fire, he's also nowhere to be found but police believe he may be on the run. Very long story... He has passed but at least his body was found.

Don't come to the Rio Grande Valley in Texas, this is a regular occurrence. Days later they are found, sometimes alive but most of the time they are dead.
Not much of a positive side to you seems.
But you do speak the truth. We just wish for the best turn out...

he would be far from home if I saw him
sorry to hear about this
Yes, he would be. We are doing everything we can think of to bring him home safely. This city has changed a lot in the last year and seems to just keep falling. My wife and I are packing up to relocate. We have 3 small children we don't want to be around this. Thank you for your respect. He could be anywhere by now, it's been two days. May God bless.

Nice composition. The tiger face looks a little grainy. I am wondering if that is result you wanted? If it is, I like to know when you consider OK to let the grainy look to be involved? I am asking so I can be better in PP. Thank you.
Hummm? I have to disagree on the grainy look to the Tiger face... That looks more like tons of detail to me!!! Awesome!
