In Juneau try to get on the Seaplane trip to Taku glacier and lodge. Great picture opportunity of the glacier. great salmon bake, and we were even fortunate enough to have some bear come up an nibble off the salmon grill just after lunch. The Logging show at ketchikan is good and within walking distance from the ship.

I do a lot of cruising including several to AK. I almost always carry my Nikon DSLR and a 5x Canon P&S. I think today's smart phones could do some of the tasks of the Canon. The Canon is handy for certain shore excursions as well as aboard. The 18-200 should serve you well on most excursions.
