I am going to Tanzania on safari in January. I am a fine/art portrait photographer - not (by any stretch) a wildlife photographer. For my work I use a Nikon D7000 with a very good (and fast) 17-55 lens. The lens is heavy and I am limited to what I can bring with me. I want to take pictures on this trip (for my own enjoyment - that's all), but don't want to invest a lot of money in a lens I probably won't ever use again. There are lots of used telephoto lenses on Ebay and Craig's list - but the array is dizzying. Your thoughts would be most welcome.

Might consider buying a new Nikon 200 - 500 F5.6 and a 1.4 TC and selling them when you get back. You would not be renting the lens when your traveling. With the D7000 you will have a good deal of reach and with the zoom & TC, a lot of flexibility.

I posted about the problems my son has been having ordering an iMac from MacMall. After the order finally went through after five days, he found out that the computer is backordered! Other sellers said upfront that the item was backordered, but not MacMall. In none of the phone calls or emails did MacMall say the unit was not available. They even said it was ready to ship - with a little "Backordered" notice in the corner. He cancelled and looked to buy from Apple directly.
He called the local store, an hour away, but they don't stock anything with 16GB of RAM or the Fusion drive, only the standard models, so he'll have to wait for them to ship it to him in a week or more. It's costing $50, but at least he knows he'll receive it.

Jerry, B&H Photo has an 8 GB / 1 TB Fusion 27" Retna iMac in stock @ $1899. Might be quicker than Apple. Order by 4 EDT, ship the same day with free expedited shipping if that helps or did I miss something? Memory is easy to upgrade on the iMac. OWC is a source that works for me.

All my leaking copper tops were bought at BJ's and were AA size. No other size has leaked.
Fairly confident mine are bought from Costco - wonder if their is a pattern there.

Wow! I guess there is such a thing as too much information.
One thing I've learned about rechargeables: something better will soon come along, so buy just a few. The Eneloops used to be king. Now they're way down the list. I'm not going to start buying Eneloop XX till my current batteries are used up - if that ever happens.
I wonder if Panasonic's purchase of Sony in 12/2009 had anything to do wth the reduced quality?

I live in Hawaii and our warm temperature and higher humidity seem to be hard on batteries. For several years I used Costco Kirkland batteries but then I realized that they leaked and ruined my electrical devices much more often than with Duracell copper top batteries. So, even though I now use the more expensive Duracell batteries I regularly check for signs of leakage.
I've used Duracell for years but in the past 12 months or so I have experienced two failures (leaks). Both were AA which I use the most but I have not had any problems with C, D, or AAA. I cannot remember a failure with any Duracell product before these last two. Any similar experiences?

Here is what I have tried so far
- Read and implemented the two IOS 8 tips above
- Force Quit IOS (Home button & ON/OFF key simultaneously)
- Turned off the iPad2 and restarted
- Deleted History > Preferences>Safari>Clear History & Website data
- Deleted all bookmarks
- With Safari Open, I clicked on the double pages and closed all open pages except for UHH and also closed out what appear to be history by swiping to the left and clicking on delete but when I returned to this section a bit later it appears that most if not all of the History had returned.
After these attempts I again went to AmyJ's (Amy I promise I am not picking on you}Egret and attempted to dl the pic. I received the same msg -"Problem with the Web Page and will close and reopen it" and then the page crashed, just the page not the UHH site. I then tried to dl Amy's Eagle and received the same message that the Page would close and reopen but it never did - just hung but did not crash. I opened a pic by Rockdog - Pintails and Nalu - Sandhill Cranes without a problem. In limited testing it seems I experience this problem only with Amy's pics although I have received the "Problem with this page and will close and reopen" fairly often on UHH in the past but usually the page did open.
I just remembered a suggestion to restore the iPad2 and reload all the apps and data. I will try that next and let you know what happens.

Just finished the restore of my iPad2, opened UHH > BIF/BOW > and tried to open Amy's Eagle.
Received the following message, "A problem occurred with this webpage so it was reloaded". After a minute or two delay the following message appeared "A problem repeatedly occurred on "
http://static.uglyhedgehog.com/upload/2015/10/30/1446236685220-eagleadult2.jpg.
Rock dog's Pintails and Nalu''s Sandhills dl OK. FWIW, Pintails dl very fast, the Sandhills were much slower but load. I dl both of them within 2 - 3 minutes of each other. let me know if you need anything further.
BTW, B4 I Reset my iPad I backed it up to iTunes on a MBP running OS X 10.11. MANY of the apps did not restore to my iPad but I think they are still in Applications and can be dl. Just a lot of - to me - unnecessary work as I think the backup restore should have given me a "clone" of the iPad data and apps. Organization of the Apps on the iPad was also messed up. Sure different than the backup / restore results of OS X.

Turns out, there is also something you could try on your end.
At this point, several users were able to identify a fix for iPad with Safari browser.
Here is one reply that might help:
It looks like Safari, if not exited properly, keeps all the pages you've visited active in the background. Over time, that overloads the system and contributes to the problems of browser freezing, half-page loading, and repeated redirects.
You can find some additional information, that's still relevant for iOS 9 (not just 8,7,etc.).

Pic was taken a month ago in the Charlotte area. He / She would fly into the bay and back out virtually the same time every day. This was the only time I saw him walking the shore line.
Thanks for viewing.

Tried the following:
Force Quit all Open Apps
Turned the iPad2 off and restarted
Rebooted the iPad
Deleted History - Preferences > Safari > Clear History & Website Data
Deleted All Bookmarks (I'll probably need one or two tomorrow😊)
After each attempt I went back to Amy's Egret and received the
"Page closed and will reopen" message.
Thanks for everyone's input. I feel better knowing I'm not the only one with this problem and I don't have to budget for a new device. Maybe Apple will resolve this with the next IOS update?

I have an iPad Air and have the same problem, prior to IOS 9 as well. It is very annoying! I find if I delete history it works ok for a while, but still returns. Will watch with interest for other replies. :D
If I log into UHH on a MBP running OS X 10.11, and attempt to DL Amy's Egret, everything works as advertised. I'm beginning to associate the problem with IOS, especially since the problems effect earlier versions of IOS as well as 9.X and IOS devices of varying vintages.
Thank's for your input.

Hi Bill, the same event happens to my IPAD2. It's frustrating when I've come home from work and just want to enjoy a moment on the UHH. I'm not sure there's an answer. Maybe inquiring at the Apple store, but even they may not have an answer. Perhaps , the troublesome interference will be over when the next IOS comes through.
p
Debbe, are you using IOS 9.X?
