Where we are there really is not a Muslim population in the smaller towns and villages - at least that we see. From what we are told, there are more further north and also primarily in the cities. Last year, we were in Marseilles - there it seemed the Muslim population outnumbered the native French - startling, really.

We are buying a small house here in a village named Monpazier. The house was built in 1284. When we start spending more time here (a couple times a year) I'm sure we'll learn a lot more.

While I'm at it,here is a photo taken at a market yesterday - in the rain.

Not asking anybody to grab a gun and a bible.....all I'm asking, since it's beyond your capacity to lead, and you surely won't follow...then get out of the way!

I have what I consider a 4 step fix for the situation in the Middle East. A situation that will never resolve as long as outsiders interfere.

1. Close Shop. Pack up all U.S. Civilian and Military equipment and personnel and send them home. Let the Waring tribes settle their own s**t .

2. End all Monetary and Military aid across the Globe. We have good use for the money here at home.

3. Build the Keystone Pipeline. We do not need the oil from these people, there is more than enough available in the North American Continent.

4. Close our borders, we cannot be the home for every unfortunate soul on planet earth, for all those that refuse to fight for what is their homeland. The current immigration system is working well and brings in good, responsible, productive , immigrants.

An addendum to #3, have the government build their own refineries, from which they will feed the needs of the government for fuel....autos, aircraft, etc. Product will not be used for civilian consumption, but government needs only. Only in case of an extreme emergency can fuel from the government refinery be fed into the public system. All refineries now in existence would be for the public, and not the government.

Glad you are safe and away from the turmoil. I'm also glad you got to experience the exhibition of patriotism in the small towns, something that is sorely missing in areas of our country.
Have the villages and small towns you've visited, had any muslim refugees join the village, not necessarily from the recent influx into Europe, but in the past? If so, have they assimilated well into the community?

You must be travelling between towns and villages, Moabarch, and don't have time to respond. If you have time, Let us know what you find in those towns and villages, also.

The reaction is what you expect, of course: sadness and shock, disbelief. We are not in a big city - rather visiting smaller towns and villages in southern France. We have witnessed several noon gatherings of locals in very small villages where everyone comes together, raises the f**g, listens to a few short speeches and then sings their national anthem. What you do not hear are any generalized comments about Muslims, or slurs like you read on this forum. The individuals we know and others we talk to all make it clear they know it is the few and not the many. I'm sure there are those that feel otherwise - we just haven't met them.

I usually post photos while on vacation. Currently I'm in France but haven't had a lot of success taking anything worthwhile. Her's a couple from last winter - Antarctica

If your in France right now, perhaps you can give us a feel for how the population is handling the Paris travesty. Stay safe over there!

You are right on one count and wrong on another. That short hemline belongs to wife#2. As for being young, she was 56 in that photo

I shopped for over a year on ebay and Craigs list and finally found one that I paid $900 for that was in like new pristine condition with all documentation and original box with 24,501 shutter actuation's on it. There are many good deals out there and I'm sure you will find one. Best of luck in your search.

24K actuations?? Hell, not even broken in yet. I search Ebay and another photo forum that seems to have a much better "for sale" section. They also have a give away thread that works like a pay it forward deal. You have something to donate, then you can claim something! I recently claimed an ef-s 10-22 f3.5/4.5!

I take it the "ex" is not the young lady with the short hemline? Got my attention with that pic...loved it! (Some of our liberal friends in the attic are correct....I am an old man..a dirty old man!)

Great captures warwoman! I just got my FF about 7 months ago, a Canon 5D MKII. I can't afford the latest greatest, so I have to wait for them to come out and get the older generation used at a price that is within my budget. You will love your FF and I'm absolutely thrilled with mine. I can hardly wait for the 7D MKIII to come out so I can start shopping for the MKII.

Of the same thoughts, Jakebrake. I'd love to sell my two cameras (XSi and T3i), which would go towards a FF, albeit they wouldn't bring much. But I have a hard time getting rid of any cameras, and lenses especially. I will do likewise what you do, and that is keep looking for a deal on an older model (5D2, 6D) as they come out with new models. I do tailor my lens purchases now to the EF side, as any new lenses would fit both. Keeping my eyes open.

Have two DSLR's, Canons, that I use, with lots of lenses, most of which I seldom use. Working my way towards full frame in the future.
