I think it is an artifact. If you notice the front of the left leg has a white line along it.

Thanks for making me research that artifacts. I found this which may interest others:
*************
Blooming
Pixels on a DSLR sensor collect photons, which are converted into an electrical charge. However, the pixels can occasionally collect too many photons, which causes an overflow of electrical charge. This overflow can spill onto existing pixels, causing overexposure in areas of an image. This is known as blooming.

Most modern DSLRs have anti-blooming gates which help to drain away this excess charge.
*************
though I'm not sure that is the explanation for the black edge.

A most interesting problem, testing our knowledge of those frisky photons.

And thank you for taking the challenge.

Horizontal camera shake.

Possibly, but 1/1250 seems pretty fast.

Let me guess, you're using a sony camera..

Yes, it's an RX100II. Can't risk taking the Nikon out in busy surf.

I still cannot understand why anyone would want an OS that basically comandeers your machine and harrasses you into installing updates you may not want. Thankfully there is Linux.

Please educate me. How do you know when to update Linux? Or is never updated?

The bore tide on Turnagain Arm, south of Anchorage, is a fine catch.
Agree with wingpilot: jet boat from Talkeetna. A flight from Talkeetna up and around Denali is great.

Great share. I did not realize the Turks are still flying F-4s...which first flew in 1958. We left a lot of them scattered/embedded around SouthEast Asia.

I had earlier posted this to my own topic, unaware of the challenge.

I believe it qualifies.

Either shadow from his body or a reflection of that dark blue outfit onto the back of his arm that just ever so slightly shows on the curve of the arm.

I like the reflection explanation. His arm was wet. Thanks, Robert.

If you pixel peep that could possibly be chromatic aberration elsewhere also, under his ring finger, under his chin, in the water. Just a possibility to try lens correction for CA and see if it reduces. Otherwise it is fixable, patch tool or healing brush with the pic zoomed in a lot.

I thought of CA and tried to correct it with the RAW file, but that did not improve it. I have fixed it using the tools. But I'm still curious about the cause.

Worthwhile, for sure. I did not know about the camera restriction so have an interesting shot in the entry tunnel...which is supposed to line up with the winter solstice sun rays.

Possibly he staged the assault so he could use the novel defense? Expect provocations regularly as we head toward 2020.
