The 50mm 1.8 is what I consider a pure simple lens, it doesn't zone, if you want it close up you move up if you want wide angle, you move back. It is photography pure and simple. I feel the 50 is a great lens to learn on, not "necessary" but a useful,
easy, fun lens. I think the more you use that lens, the more you appreciate the other lenses in your bag. Just saying.

Bill, I appreciate what you posted and I feel like a curmudgeon for saying this, but the editing of the film, I think, detracts from what could and should be a lovely piece. Just when I focus on an image, in 1 or 2 seconds it's gone and another brief shot follows, but after 1-2 seconds, that's gone too! You never get to truly appreciate most of the images. Just saying, maybe it's just me. But thank you still.

Donrent, you were kind enough to link this facticious article to snopes but apparently failed to read the entire snopes article. It was attributed to have been published in the WSJ but in fact was not, in either the on line or print editions! A fact is a fact, even if it doesn't deliver the result you desire!

You don't list what your primary camera is or how much time until your trip but I suggest you use the D40 as a primary until you depart. I kept a D70 as a backup for my D700 and when I finally pick up the D70 after not using it for 15 months, I realized why I love the D700. I gifted the D70 to my daughter. Just saying!

As David Pine suggests, if possible, visit an Apple store. I think you might find the iMac more to your liking. For me, when it comes to editing, bigger is in fact better. I went from a 24" iMac to a 27" iMac and I'm not going back. Just saying!

People expect to pay for a photographer and his work. I guess it depends on what you normally charge for what you normally provide. If you always keep the RAW files for all events and do not include them with the photographs, I wouldn't release them.
If you desperately need this wedding or you'll be in deep financial straits, do what you must do, otherwise stick by what you normally charge. Some people have to haggle, they expect to pay less. I imagine the wedding is going to be at a country club and many thousands of dollars will be spent for flowers, food, wine, music and the location. If they're bringing their own food, wine, music and they're holding it in a back yard, then maybe sell the RAW files, otherwise, I'd pass.

Ibrandt79' you are correct, they will address problems, in store, without reservation, unless it is a hardware problem! Also, the AppleCare applies to phone support as well. Once your free 90 day coverage runs out, you're talking $$$ to speak with support, although they will listen to what your problem is and if it's relatively easy, may choose to help for free. The warrantee in the iMac itself is for one year. I think AppleCare, for peace of mind, is well worth it, just saying.

I just bought a 27" iMac with the 3.5 Ghz Quad-core Intel core i7 with Turbo boost, to 3.9 Ghz, the Nvidia GForce GTX 780M 4 GB, 256 GB flash storage and 8 GB of memory. I figured I would max out two things I can't change, the processor and the video card and I can easily up my RAM later for less money. I opted for the 256 GB flash drive over conventional drive or Fusion drive for the speed over conventional drive and size, the Fusion has only 128 GB of flash. I have external storage for my photos and 256 is plenty of room for my OS and programs. I also purchased the USB SuperDrive, as the iMac has none built in.
I would suggest you consider using either a Fusion drive or Flash drive, the speed increase is wonderful. Also, consider the refurbished, shipping is free and the warrantee is the same as new. Just a thought. You will enjoy the iMac, that I'm sure of!

Thanks, it's very refreshing to see something positive in the Chit Chat of UHH, finally! It stands out on its own, but here at UHH Chit Chat, it reflects the insight I feel as a photographer, looking deeper to build a story with a photograph. That three minutes makes a great way to begin every day, thanks again!

Seriously, where does a person come up with this? This is beginning to read like Comedy Central or Faux News! Gitzo, blurryeyed and graybeal, are you really comedy satire writers who do standup during the weekends?

Your Apple came with iPhoto, it will do everything you need to resize your photos and allow you to edit the photos as well. It's not the most powerful program but what it does, it does so very easily and saves every edit by simply moving on to the next photo. Try it out, you'll be surprised how easy it is to learn and use.

I'm not understanding your question, but it's probably my explanation where the confusion lies. On my iMac, the flash drive, or SSD, solid state drive, is where all my programs reside. On a fusion drive, it has a smaller SSD, 128 GB with the remainder of the storage in a conventional mechanical drive. My theory is 256 GB is plenty of space for all my programs and my photos reside on external HDs. It took 10 days to have this configuration built to my liking. I maximized the video card, with 4 GB of ram and opted for the faster processor. I was satisfied with 8 GB of RAM and it's easy enough to upgrade to 16 or ever 32 GB of RAM. After three weeks using the system there really isn't anything I would change.

Fusion is a combination flash drive and mechanical drive, the flash portion is 128 GB, the remainder is in conventional storage. Memory and storage are not the same, memory is what we refers to as RAM, random access memory, the more the better. I just purchased a 27" iMac with a 256 GB of flash storage, as all of my photos reside on an external hard drive and my programs reside on the flash drive, verrrry fast.

Again, the right wingers continue to whine about Obamacare, which is an effort to help all Americans have access to health care - and yet even after all these years to think about it - they have NOT come up with an alternative! When Romney did it in Massachusetts, even the Heritage Foundation thought it was a great idea, so apparently, even nut-jobs like Malkin only have a problem with it when it is offered up by a black president.

And - exactly WHAT aspect of "Obamacare" is so disturbing? No exclusion with pre-existing conditions? Your children being covered under your policy until the age of 26? The new provisions to protect against Medicare Fraud? Eliminating the Medicare Prescription donut-hole the Republicans left? The fact that more Americans now have health insurance than ever? If it is just the mandate that bothers you - then SAY that it is just the mandate, and then let's explore other funding options. Oh - that's right - you simply don't care if our fellow citizens lack health care. I forgot.
Again, the right wingers continue to whine about O... (show quote)

It goes deeper than that, Obama is a black Democrat president. No matter what he says or does, it's wrong! It must be, it has to be, because he's a Democrat! I know, personally, people who's lives have been changed by ACA and have purchased health insurance through The Affordable Care Act. People having health insurance isn't going to ruin the country.
