No need to be embarrassed about not being in Nam. There were military establishments all over the world, and they all needed people. At the time, New Jersey was considered remote duty to me, being from Florida. Then I met a nice Jersey girl, and we've been together ever since.

Thank you, so many brothers have told me that. I now admit freely where I was stationed.
However, it was not all luaus and hulas. We were stuck in the middle of a pineapple field in the middle of Oahu.

Sorry to hear about your current situation. I hope things get better for you before too long. There are several things you might be able to do to watch TV and access the web.

This might help you find a free internet provider in your area. Free internet providers:

Some newer computers do not have a dial-up modem. You will need an external dial-up modem to connect. These are usually not sold in stores. This is a good one you can order from Walmart:

As for watching tv, you can try Hulu.com. There are a lot of programs you can watch there for free. However, if you're using dial-up it might not work too well.

If you have a newer TV you might be able to use an indoor antenna and access local TV stations. Here are some possibilities:

Also, you might check with the nearest VA clinic. They might be able to hook you up with some local computer guys who will be glad to help you find a low cost solution to your communication needs. Also check with other vet groups, like the DAV.

You might also check with a local church to see if they have someone who might be able to help. A lot of computer nerds are kind hearted and willing to share their knowledge.

I got stationed in Spain and New Jersey, so never saw any action in Nam. But I can surely appreciate what sacrifices you have made for the good ol' USA.

Thanks for these links, I think some of them will help. I already have the TV antenna and planned to use it if I lost cable. I just can''t stand prime time shows. Oh well.
I've always been embarrassed to tell where I was stationed. I was a radioman in the Navy and had a top secret crypto clearance so they sent me to Hawaii, of course. But you have to go where they need you.

Hope this helps.

You can get 10 hours a month of free dialup.

Thank you for this reminder. I remember I can get that CD at Walmart. The hard part will be losing cable TV.

I see that you used to work in the stock market, and then on a farm there in Texas. Being a "Vietnam vet", would put you around my age (69), and I too was a two tour Viet Nam vet.

Now the interesting thing is that my old Navy buddy lives down your way, in Rockport. He is retired with his wife, was a stock broker, and a big farmer. He also knows everyone who is anyone in Texas. . .if you want to PM me with your contact info, etc., I will send it off to Tommy. You two seem to have lots in common, he and I are the same age, and he just might be able to help you with your problems? One never knows. . .

And thank you for your offer to contact your friend. I am 70 now last Feb so, yes we are the same age. It wouldn't surprise me to know him. I have worked at several brokerages, San Antonio and Houston.
And I see from a later post there is Netzero that is free. That reminds me that there are several free.

I want to thank all that has helped me in my attempt to learn more about photography.
I've come up with a problem which seems unsolvable right now. I'm not sure how long I can keep my internet connection as I am having to move and have to do it by 6/1. Medicade is helping me as I am a Vietnam vet, but the going is slow.
But the reason for this letter is to thank you all. I am so happy I have come across UHH.

Leviticus 20:13.....

"For those who haven't heard, Washington State just passed two new laws - gay marriage and legalized marijuana. The fact that gay marriage and marijuana were legalized on the same day makes perfect biblical sense because Leviticus 20:13 says "If a man lies with another man they should be stoned."Evidently, We just hadn't interpreted it correctly before!

Have you eaten shrimp lately? Get in line. Also for Lobster, goat, pig, got the picture?
