Wow I own a d5100,I have shot merely 16,000 shots on it I have also the bundle lens,that came with the camera when I purchased it.I also take portraits of the family,my grand children,flowers etc.and I do this with the 55-300mm lens,when you have the camera set properly it will please your expectations.Before my purchase I was worried if that was the one for me.Well now I've been looking in to my next upgrade.All guessing a side they are about to launch the 3200. That's what I would check that also before I made a purchase.What ever your choice have fun,enjoy,and shoot,shoot shoot,have fun.
The d5100 is an awesome camera,I purchased one a year ago
and like everything about it.Everything about it is a learning experience,the more I shoot with it the better.My daughter just recently purchased the d3100,kinda like buying a new vehicle one has a few more options.
