to Admin,
Does this garbage have to go on forever. I'm not in favor of policing, but too darnned much of what is being put out is based on a peculiar sense of humor, inappropriate jokes, etc. this is supposed to be a photo based website that provides useful information. If it continues to deteriorate as it has been the people who have the most to gain from it will quit and you will be left with the childish jokesters. I've seen it happen to often. This website is not just for social media freaks.

It's not a joking matter. My wife has a balance issue that makes photography difficult, and also leads to dangerous falls. She has been doing balance exercises to retrain her brain to use visual input rather than her "faulty" inner ear. If it's really na issue see a Doctor to get a diagnosis anf recommendation.

As a retired engineer with 4 Nikon VR lenses and 60 years of photography experience, AMEN! This is the first comprehensive discussion of Nikon's VR systems(s) that I have seen and the information is spot on. I just got Nikon to repair an 18 to 200 lens with a "loose" VR element and I researched the problem in order to diagnose it. VR can be priceless in certain circumstances, particularly for us old folks with shaky hands, but it shouldn't be used indiscriminately .

There are a number of places in Florida (public) where you can get really close to birds via a boardwalk. I live in Boynton Beach with Wakodahatchee and Green Cay Wetlands. Lots of people with both long and short lenses. The 2 attached were taken with a 400mm but a 200mm with a little cropping will get you as close.

I use NiMH AA's for a radio control model. A single failure is an issue. I found out that these batteries should be tested under load.B & H sells a battery tester that applies a load and reads out battery state of charge (% remaining) It sells for about $35 and will test a wide variety of cell types>

We recently went to Myanmar and used an iPad Mini (64gb) to back up photos and view images. It is a little more expensive that most of the other solutions but it is a much more reliable solid state memory and it doubles as a mini laptop wherever you can get wifi. I also use the DOF app which works without wifi.

My wife and I are leaving Tuesday for 17 days in Burma (very limited internet access). I normallytake my laptop for backup but we will be doing a lot of local flying and I wanted to simplify. I have (5) 32 GB cards (we shoot RAW) and I plan on locking and saving the cards as I use them. For backup, I have an IPad mini (64) GB with the camera connector kit. It is small, light and rugged (solid state drive) and It will download RAW (displays as JPEG). I will download daily and save just the "keeper" on th IPad as my backup to the SD cards. Youi can also use an IPod to do the same thing, but the downloads are much slower.

Take a look at Clik Elite backpacks. I'm using one for carry on luggage on flights with my camera gear. It fits under the seat or in the overhead rack and does a great job. I'm carrying 2 bodies, 3 regular lenses plus an 80-400 mm, a tele extender, chargers, TM's, a 15.5" laptop, etc. Since I don't check it with the airline I have to check the tripod (Gitzo) but it takes everything else. Total weight with the backpack loaded is 31 #, but I can carry it around despite being 75 years old.

My wife has the same problem (torn rotator cuff), she had a Nikon Coolpix P500 (small sensor) and was unhappy with the image quality. I got her a Nikon D7000 with the 18 to 200 lens. It isn't that light but she uses it with a Cotton Carrier www.cottoncarrier.com. Which supports the weight perfectly except when she actually is shooting. She is very happy with it and she didn't have to compromise on camera quality.
