Good Morning UHH,era

Images , second one is from Hanssons Beach , Adventure Bay , Bruny Island , Tasmania , looks from our west , east out over Storm Bay , towards the infamous Port Authur , and Tasman Island into the Tasman Sea towards New Zealand , and the Southern Ocean .
The waters here , are some of the clearest in the World , albeit a tad cold to swin in !!!!

Nikon , D3100 , Tamaron 18-270mm , circular polariser

Its taken mid day , ( 1 ) day prior to the Bushfires which devastated the background peninsula in early January , about 180 properties were burnt to the ground , mainly in a township called Dunalley.

Image looks a little dark on UHH , should be considerably lighter .

The first image is a native Wren , also taken at Adventure bay , over the Christmas New Year Period . Its a female , they are always the same brown , the males are black with brilliant blue flashing on the chest , face and tails . Very Small bird , easily fit in the palm of a childs hand .

Nikon , D7000 , Sigma , 50mm - 500mm was taken late afternoon .

Cheers
Bruce

Good Morning

Here's what I do .

I have 2 press seal plastic bags , I stick all the charged ones in it , and in it also is a green piece of plastic . When I use batteries , or discharge them , I put them inside another press seal bag , which is inside the first one , and it has a bit of red plastic in it .

Go home , take the batteries out of the red tag bag , charge em , start all over again

Too easy

I have the 50-500 on board D7000

One thing I want to do , is the focus pryamiad AF Fine Tune test .

At this stage I,m happy with it .

I,m at between ISO 400-640 for fast shutter for birding, otherwise was blurring at slow speeds, also avoid dead short or complete long ,to get better sharpness.

Hope that helps .

Cheers

Thanks , That's very Helpful

I,ve done a bit more research , and sending the ISO further NORTH seems to be a bit of a theme with this lens .

I like the idea of settings too , did not think of that .

Its "The Little Island" here Tasmania , Australia .

I have the SIGMA 50mm - 500mm , and its currently residing aboard , my NIKON D7000 .

I'm just starting to use it a Lot . Recently bird photography .

I ' ve noticed that at Hand held , or on a monopod, I'm getting some mixed results , in terms of crispness/sharpness of the image .

I'm spot centre metering , and I'm periodically checking the ambient light with a SEKONIC 358 , just out of interest .

I usually try to keep ISO as low as possible , but I have found that when I do this , I get a higher incidence of less sharper images . The light changes on an almost second by second basis down our way at thius time of the year , but as I move up in ISO , and all the way up to 1000 , the % of sharp images increases dramatically , and I realise that this must be in part associated with the higher shutter speeds .

My question is , Is it possible the Optical Stabilisation (OS) , is also a factor , with the low ISO and lower shutter speeds , that there is some sort of a conflict also affecting sharpness ???

I am aware that OS should be turned off when used on a tripod .

It just seems that at above a certain ISO , and higher shutter speeds , theres some sort of threasehold that kicks in , and the lens finds its sweet spot .

For bird Photography , I'd be interested in what sort of target Shutter Speeds are being used to capture sharp images .

I have searched UHH , and I don't think this has been raised before .

Many Thanks in Advance .

Sorry About that ,

Tried to work it out. I don't think my reduced image with a file extension of "uhh" would be read by many image readers .

After 20 plus years , with a PC , I love this new Mac Book Pro Retina , high end version . Be good when I get used to it !!!!!

Doing the Photography Institute course here in Australia .

Up to Module 3 , which features the 18% Grey Card Scale test .

The course is well packaged , and extremely informative .

I did the course to fast track my expertise , but in a structured self paced way .

For $1K $AUS , extremely good value , so far .

Cheers

No it does not .

I ' ve tested on D3100 and D7000 .

The connector , will only work , if its the first hit on the memory Card . If the cards been accessed before , either vias USB or a card reader , it leave a residual data on the card , and it won't work . Having said that , it might be a local issue .

My IPad is 3G , on our TELSTRA Network . Its garbage because the TELSTRA ( AUSTRALIAN Company ) is using a different 3G , than the US equivalent . There been a lawsuit over local misrepresentation here in Australia . Apple has been dropped in it , so to speak .

Theres also EU commentary about adaptor clean access .

In short the problem arises if the IPad is not the very first device to connect to the memory card via USB . There are countlessproblems wiuth USB Card readers, so I woujdl not even bother going there .

The error messages basically run around , NO IMAGES present .

The images are still there , but because theres been a previously views flag put on them , its enough to block them from the IPad adaptor . It must be altering the EXIF or the RAW File itself , and as this is deemed an edit , the IPad adaptor finds them unrecognisable .

Thats the Australian experience . Its widely documented . The solution is to use ITunes , which is a pain . It involves a synch .

Given all that overhead , PHOTO TRANSFER app is easiest . Thats not entirely straight forward either TIF and tiff are not the same according to Apple , although it is to me .

The priciples in IT are referred to as DEEP INTEGRATION .

All this means is that IPAD wants youj to do everything with Apple , not PC , Cameras sit somewhere in the middle .

I'd suggest the platform ( IPad ) is setup to be more compatible with other Apple products .

PROOF
Buy an Apple MAC BOOK PRO - RETINA Display .

Spend about $4,000 AU Dollars , a bit more in $US , inc 3 year Apple care , and guess what , the compatibility issues magically disappear .

VERY CYNICAL OF ME , METHINKS !!!!
